HAMBURG, Germany (AFP) - Mounir el Motassadeq, a Moroccan convicted as an accomplice
in the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, was sentenced to 15 years in
prison by a German court.
Motassadeq, who was friendly with three of the attackers, was given the toughest
sentence possible under German law as demanded by the state prosecution.
Germany's highest appeals court in November found that Motassadeq, 32, had played a
role in the death of the 246 passengers and crew of the four aircraft used in the attacks.

northern port city where, as a student, he had mingled with the highjackers, including
their presumed ringleader Mohammed Atta.
"I swear before God that I did not know that they were in America. I swear before God
that I did not know what they were planning," he cried.
