Spies put transmitters in Canadian coins: Report

OTTAWA – They say money talks, and a new report suggests Canadian currency is indeed chatting, at least electronically, on behalf of shadowy spies.

Canadian coins containing tiny transmitters have mysteriously turned up in the pockets of at least three American contractors who visited Canada, says a branch of the U.S. Defense Department.

Security experts believe the miniature devices could be used to track the movements of defence industry personnel dealing in sensitive military technology.

3. my choice would be the toonie!

It's a rather large coin -- and its two-piece design would make it easier to tamper with. Just pop the centre piece out and drill into it .. then replace it in the middle of the coin. In fact, I received one last month where the centre was askew ... hmmm ...

so they wouldn't stay in one person's hands long enough to pass on information. Where they WOULD be useful is in the pocket of a spy, to transmit his conversations somewhere else.

If you put one in a vending machine, it comes rolling right back to you. Cashiers will act as if you tried to poison them if you drop one in their hands.

A looney was secretly buried in the ice before a gold medal hockey game, which turned the trick for Canada. You can see it at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. I guess spies must have taken note of these eerie powers.
