Camp Resistance - day 1

author: Gordon Sturrock

Camp Resistance HAS been established by the IVAW Deployed Vets with the permission of a brave property owner, RIGHT OUTSIDE THE MAIN ENTRANCE TO FORT LEWIS!!!!!

IVAW Deployed Bus at Camp Resistance

We're back, safe and sound from day one at Camp Resistance. Had a great trip and can't wait to tell you all about it, but the full story will have to wait a bit. It was a BIG success. Camp Resistance HAS been established by the IVAW Deployed Vets with the permission of a brave property owner, RIGHT OUTSIDE THE MAIN ENTRANCE TO FORT LEWIS!!!!! They will "occupy" that camp until 1LT Watada has had his trial in about a month.

Many thanks to Sara Rich for helping this become possible!!!!

Apparently, their presence is not being very well received. There were MANY complaints to the city. The city sent out 3 inspectors who were.... SUPPORTIVE!

The(ir) ball is now rolling. Jack and I kicked it as hard as we could with our own Anti-war tour bus "Squadron13" (formerly the "Spirit of Garberville") and are looking forward to going back for some more, possibly a weekend trip in two weeks.

6. Lt. Ehren K. Watada is as much a hero as those German officers
that opposed Hitler and paid with their lives for their efforts.

Lt. Watada is standing on the principle that a military officer or enlisted person can refuse to obey an illegal order. Bush's invasion and occupation of Iraq is a war crime on the same level as Germany's invasion of Poland and Japan's invasion of China.

The Front Line: CAMP RESISTANCE

08JAN2007
This day, our 5th day at Camp Resistance, started out beautifully. The sun was out and we were able to accomplish a few tasks that were dependant upon good weather. Blue skies faded to grey as we prepared for our daily scheduled protest which yielded similar results to our previous day's efforts only this time we've recorded our findings: 9 soldiers/10 civilians believe that our actions are inappropriate and have conveyed that with their middle fingers while driving by, 2 soldiers/11 civilians were able to relate with the former, employing the thumbs down as opposed to the Avian gestures of their brethren. On the flipside things were a bit more colorful: Truckers, 31 in all, displayed solidarity with an air horn blast as they rolled past; 71 soldiers, 117 civilians and 2 policemen delivered fists of solidarity, Peace signs, waves and supportive smiles. One person stuck their tongue out at us; I'll leave it up to you to interpret the meaning of that.

All in all today carried with it a positive vibe.

(thanks for sharing, adw)

8. Good luck to you there! Best wishes
Lt Watada is so misunderstood. It is amazing that more do not know about his story.
Why doesnt the MSM just say it out straight the shrub has got the US in a mess?
Why dont they just say he lied, and they died.

9. This is what it looks like to Support The Troops
When they say we have to fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over here, it is a dodge, a misdirect, so people won't realize the fight is and always has been here against the fascists that stole our country.
