Official: Bomb suspect in Somalia killed
MOGADISHU, Somalia - The suspected al-Qaida militant who planned the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in east Africa was killed in an American airstrike in Somalia, an official said Wednesday.

"I have received a report from the American side chronicling the targets and list of damage," Abdirizak Hassan, the Somali president's chief of staff, told The Associated Press. "One of the items they were claiming was that Fazul Abdullah Mohammed is dead."

Hassan said that American airstrikes in Somalia would continue.

"I know it happened yesterday, it will happen today and it will happen tomorrow," he said.

2. nope, and nothing from the Pentagon either
We'll probably get word later about it, similar to the #2 killed recently in Iraq, "faith based
analysis"?. :eyes:

KABUL, Afghanistan - Forensic analysis and other information enabled the U.S. military to verify that a key associate of Taliban chief Mullah Omar was killed in an airstrike in southern Afghanistan last week, a spokesman said Sunday.

The military is "very sure" it killed Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Osmani although it can't provide visual proof as his body was "obliterated" in Tuesday's attack on a vehicle traveling through Helmand province, said military spokesman Col. Tom Collins.

9. They have to await forensic testing as every living thing between
our Cannons and the *suspected* terrorists, including neighbors and livestock are "kibbles and bits ... and bits ... and bits."

6. AP: Al-Qaida chief in Somalia may be dead
Al-Qaida chief in Somalia may be dead

By SALAD DUHUL, Associated Press Writer

MOGADISHU, Somalia - A senior al-Qaida suspect wanted for bombing American embassies in
East Africa was killed in a U.S. airstrike, a Somali official said Wednesday, a report that if
confirmed would mean the end of an eight-year hunt for a top target of Washington's war on
terrorism.

There was no immediate confirmation from the United States. In Washington, an intelligence
official said the U.S. killed five to 10 people in an attack on an al-Qaida target in southern
Somalia but did not say who was killed. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity
because of the operation's sensitivity, said perhaps four or five others were wounded.

7. was listening to CNNI earlier and someone said the only way they'd
be able to confirm it is if tbe US has troops on the ground. so it seems to be a catch 22 at this point about getting the Pentagon, etc to confirm. but the reporter led the viewers to believe there are Special Forces on the ground directing where the airstrikes should occur.

10. Al-Qaida chief in Somalia may be dead
Or, he may be alive. He may be driving a Hummer, or he may be wearing a clown outfit, or he may have gotten a pony for his birthday. He may even look like a woman. Or a tree. He may be Supreme Overlord of the Universe, or he may be a fry-guy at McDonald's.

With a well-placed "may," ANYTHING is possible!

11. BBC: Terror suspect 'alive in Somalia'
Last Updated: Thursday, 11 January 2007, 09:31 GMT

Terror suspect 'alive in Somalia'

A key al-Qaeda suspect was not killed during Monday's air strike in southern Somalia,
the top United States diplomat in the region has told the BBC.

Somali officials had said that Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, accused of masterminding the
1998 bomb attacks on US embassies in East Africa, was dead.

Ambassador Michael Ranneberger also strongly denied reports that a number of civilians
had died in the attack.

The US says it carried out the air strikes to target al-Qaeda suspects.
