Support is strong for gov't use of biometric IDs
Overwhelming number of Americans favor biometrics use in passports, driver's licenses, Social Security cards

By Jaikumar Vijayan, Computerworld
January 10, 2007

Despite some misgivings, an overwhelming number of Americans favor the use of biometric identifiers in passports, driver's licenses and Social Security cards, according to a new survey by Truste, a non-profit online privacy certification organization based in San Francisco.

The same is true when it comes to the use of biometric IDs in credit and debit cards, although most of those who responded to the survey appear to be reluctant to share biometric data with retailers because of privacy concerns.

The e-mail survey of 1,025 U.S. consumers, conducted by Truste and London-based market research firm Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS), looked at how Americans view the use of biometrics for a variety of identification purposes.

"The survey results seem to indicate that in dealing with government use of biometric data, most people will tolerate a decrease in personal privacy to gain increased security in the form of physical safety," Fran Maier, executive director and president of Truste, said in a statement. "This doesn't seem to translate to the retail sphere, where consumers appear to be more cautious about giving away their personally identifiable information."

2. What is the relationship between this and "Physical safety?"
I'm thinking the only people who are really for this are the people who would get government contracts out of it.

3. Sounds like they asked a lot of loaded questions
with lots of unrealistic hypotheticals, like, "If such and such could be guaranteed to work like so..."

4. Beware surveys that report results but not the questions asked.
My bullshit meter on this registers a 6.4.

5. "No one can buy or sell unless he has the mark..."
Also it (the Beast) causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name.

Revelations 13:16-17

I wonder how many Talibangelicals support biometrics. The Bible does, after all, say that many believers will be decieved and will flock to the Anti-Christ because of his promises of safety and security. :hi:

6. Privacy isn't what we think it is...
So if remote viewing is real, which I would assume it is, and I plan to learn it myself soon, then this whole DNA/bio-metrics stuff isn't even truely about privacy invasion. It's about Spiritual invasion and invasion of your life-dependant DNA. Whoever knows your DNA code can possibly manipulate it using scalar/frquency weapons, no? I'm not here to scare everyone, just trying to help with this issue. And we ALL know military has sound, frequency, microwave, and scalar weapons that could easily be used on each of our DNA coding... correct me if I am wrong, please. I DONT want to be correct. But this is what I gather from such things. Please see below.

So we should most definitely be concerned in multiple ways.

7. Seems like it's always THEIR systems, processes and technology that creates the problems
and OUR rights that need to be sacrificed to fix those problems.

8. Is this a survey commissioned by potential makers of these things?
I haven't even heard of "biometric IDs" until now, but it's interesting to discover that I apparently already "strongly support" government use of them...

9. You got it. Truste is the company positioned to reap billions from such a move.
This is nothing more than a thinly veiled PR campaign for the gummint to sign a lucrative deal with Truste.

13. Hey US DUers!

What's it like to be in the underwhelming minority of Americans who
actually *have* some brain-cells?

Ah ... a serious sample then!

Must be time for another round of "Nigerian Banker" emails requesting not
only bank details but photocopies of fingerprints too ...
