CAPITOL HILL Democrats are rejecting President Bush's call for more troops in Iraq by saying "it's time to begin orderly redeployment" of U-S forces.
That position was offered in a televised response to the president's address by Illinois Senator Dick Durbin. He accused the president of taking "the wrong direction."
The lawmaker said the U-S is not winning "despite the courage" of U-S forces. Durbin also said sending 20-thousand Americans soldiers now is "too few to end the war, and too many to risk."
He also said that it is "time for the Iraqis to stand and defend their own nation." Durbin also said the U-S shouldn't respond "every time they call 9-1-1."
