Iraqi president to visit Syria
BAGHDAD (AFP) - Iraqi President Jalal Talabani will fly to Damascus for talks with his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad, an official at Talabani's office told AFP.

"On Sunday the president will go to Damascus with a big delegation," he said, adding that Talabani was the first Iraqi president to visit Damascus in three decades.

The spokesman said the two leaders are expected to sign a range of "security and commercial agreements between the two countries."

Iraq and Syria restored diplomatic ties in November after a 26-year break, during visit by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem who pledged to help in securing Iraq.

1. Better not let Condi know
I'm sure that there's some new law that hasn't been written yet, that prohibits this.

2. This is not the day Condi can get him to care.
Not after two seizing of Iranian diplomats in Iraq on his approval and her positioning on the Iraqi oil law meant to override the Iraqi constitution giving the Kurdish autonomous region control over contracts for new oil.

3. Condi has made herself
irrelevant.

The world can no longer wait for the US to lead the way and do the right thing. Instead, everyone else is taking matters into their own hands. I have a feeling we may be in for some surprises from the ME soon. So far the war has been the US against ME. Not the ME against the ME, even though we have trying to turn it into that.

4. On some days I'd think that's going too far. Not this one.
Credit goes to Condi. It takes work for a SecState to get this irrelevant.

5. nothing wrong with establishing ties between oil rich iraq and a Syria
with few natural resources.
Let the Iraqi's rebuild ties that have been severed for over 30 yrs.
