U.S. army releases Iranian detained in Arbil

Baghdad, Jan 12, (VOI) – The U.S. army said in a statement on Friday that it released one of the six Iranian consulate staff it had detained earlier on Thursday during a raid in Arbil on suspicion of being closely tied to activities targeting Iraqi and coalition forces.

The raid comes within "efforts by coalition forces against persons suspected involvement in operations targeting Iraqi citizens and Iraqi and coalition forces," the U.S. army said a statement received by the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

"The Coalition will continue to work with the Government of Iraq to prevent interference by hostile actors in Iraq's internal security affairs," the statement added.

Multi-National forces spokesman General William Caldwell said the coalition forces got photos and documents proving that the detained diplomats were involved in violence activities in Iraq.

10. Arbil is in Iraqi Kurdistan, how were they formenting violence from there?

Seriously, we storm into Iranian territory and don't tell the Kurds, whom are de facto independent and dependent upon the West for stability and have been steadfast allies of the US -- I don't get it.
