Rep. Tim Walz, a freshman Minnesota Democrat and National Guard veteran, criticized President Bush's plan to send more troops to Iraq in the Democratic Party's weekly radio address Saturday.
"Our military men and women know that it is their duty to execute their mission without question," Walz said. "But so too is it our duty to question the mission on their behalf. Rest assured that this Democratic Congress will live up to its responsibility to challenge the failed policies that have already cost us so dearly."
Bush announced this week that he planned to send an additional 21,500 troops to Iraq.
"Before moving forward with this escalation, we owe it to these troops, to their families, and to all Americans to ask the tough questions and demand honest answers about this policy," Walz said, such as what the benchmarks are for success and how long Bush believes it will take to accomplish them.
