Reuters: Iran sends message to Saudi Arabia amid rising tension
Iran sends message to Saudi Arabia amid rising tension

RIYADH, Jan 15 (Reuters) - Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani delivered
letters to Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah from Iranian leaders, Saudi media said
on Monday, in a visit which comes amid rising tension over Iraq and Tehran's
nuclear programme.

Saudi newspapers carried pictures of Larijani, who has often visited key U.S.
ally and leading Sunni Muslim nation Saudi Arabia over the past year, in what
looked like friendly conversation with King Abdullah on Sunday evening.

Larijani delivered the king a letter from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The meeting was also attended
by Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal and key royal diplomat Prince Bandar
bin Sultan.

A Saudi official said Iran wanted Saudi leaders to relay a goodwill message to
Washington on a desire for cooperation, but gave no more details. U.S. Secretary
of State Condoleezza Rice is expected to arrive for talks in Riyadh on Monday and
Tuesday.

3. Iran has offered to talk quite a few times.. Little Hitler won't have it. He wants to
play with his war toys. Just like when Saddam offered to leave the country before the war and was refused and when the Taliban offered to turn over OBL twice and Dubya refused twice. Peace AIN'T the objective.

12. There's an implicit warning in the friendliness
I wouldn't put it past SA to make a separate peace with Iran. If the Arab-Persian war were to abruptly end, the USA would find its regional interests in a lot of trouble.

13. It makes sense for Iran and SA to align together ......
It's in neither one of their best interests economically to fight a large scale civil war. Of course that's exactly what the U.S. govt wants. The more division over there the better for them to gain control.
Maybe Iran would offer the Saudis some top of the line weapons at bargain prices in return for allegiance.
Also, Iran could promise to keep their forces out of the faces of the Sunni rebels in Iraq. Iran desperately needs SA support right now and vice versa. The last thing they both want is their valuable oil commodity to be compromised which would very well happen otherwise.

(Adds Larijani quotes)

By Parisa Hafezi

TEHRAN, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Iran has denied it asked Saudi Arabia to ease tension
with Washington over its disputed nuclear programme and Iraq but analysts said
on Tuesday Tehran may be trying to prevent U.S.-allied Arab states lining up
against it.

A Saudi official said on Monday that Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani,
had delivered a message from Iranian leaders to the Saudi king, urging him to
convey a message of goodwill from Tehran to Washington.

"(The report about) Iran asking Saudi Arabia to mediate between Iran and America is
baseless," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini was quoted as
saying by the state-owned Iran newspaper.

Hosseini could not be reached for further comment. State media has only said Larijani's
visit was to improve relations.

16. It would be great if the Saudis and Iran cooperated on stabilizing Iraq...
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 09:04 PM by roamer65
but the Bush Crime Family will fight it all the way. It would be the end of US hegemony in the Middle East. Bush will start war before he allows Iran to be come the regional power.

17. Update: Iran President Sends Note to Saudi King (to work together to stabilize Iraq)
Iran President Sends Note to Saudi King

Associated Press Writer

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Iran's hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that he sent a message to Saudi King Abdullah proposing that they cooperate in helping stabilize Iraq.

Ahmadinejad's comments came as Washington is trying to rally its Arab allies and isolate Iran.

``We, Saudis and other neighboring countries can help the Iraqi people to take the lead to consolidate their government's capability to stabilize and maintain security in their country,'' Ahmadinejad told the Saudi-owned satellite television channel.

``I sent a message to King Abdullah in this regard and the answer, generally, was positive,'' the Iranian president said in the interview taped Saturday in Venezuela, one of the countries on his Latin American tour.

18. Sounds like Saudi Arabia has a big decision to make
...side with Iran and it will be the beginning of the end of US hegemony in the ME

OR

...side with the US and Israel and end up in a bloody war with Iran.

I hope the Saudis choose world peace and side with Iran to stabilize Iraq. I think the two together could do it.
