Nelson opposes curtailing Iraq cash

BY TIM ELFRINK AND JAKE THOMPSON

WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITERS

Congress should not restrict funding for President Bush's proposal to send additional troops to Iraq, U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson said Monday.

Nelson, who serves on the Senate's Armed Services Committee, said he has serious concerns about Bush's plan to send another 21,500 U.S. soldiers.

But the Nebraska lawmaker said he believes efforts by some fellow Democrats to try to limit funding for the troop increase would hurt Americans already fighting in Iraq.

"I think you run the risk of putting troops in harm's way without additional funding," Nelson said during an interview at a Martin Luther King Day event in Omaha.

1. Idiot, just become a Republican and get it over with
The Nelsons are the worst in the Senate. At least with Lieberworm he's officially not a Democrat

4. I expect to see Ben Nelson in a Humvee driving through Sadr City
All of these brave men that enable this escalation of the war, should be leading the charge.

5. I wonder if we took the federal funds going to Nebraska
and sent them to Iraq instead if he would still support it. Must sacrifice, you know....Somebody's gotta pay for this war.

7. Good.
Cutting funding won't stop the troops from going. Some are already there and the rest are on the way. They shouldn't be made to suffer. I can't stand that we're there, but I'd be furious if necessary funding had been cut out from under my brother.
