Iran 'taking control of Basra by stealth'

Iranian intelligence is preparing for complete dominance of southern Iraq when the British withdraw by penetrating Basra's security network and political parties, it can be revealed.

Iraqi intelligence sources disclosed to The Daily Telegraph that Iran plans to reap the huge financial rewards presented by the southern oil fields and prevent Western businesses from gaining a foothold inside Basra.

British and American political and military leaders are also concerned over Teheran "giving succour" to terrorists who continue to kill troops every week.

...

A senior American official, based in the British camp, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there was deep concern over the "destabilising effect" Iran was having on the area. "The indications we are receiving is that the militia firing rockets into this compound are receiving support from Iranian factions," he said. "This is very troubling when we are trying to bring peace and stability."

1. Gosh, it is "eerie" how all this drum beating regarding "bad"
Iran resembles the drum beating about "bad" Iraq. Sheer co-incidence I am sure! :sarcasm:

4. Yeah it resembles the bushco paid for 'good news'.
And for bush, this is good news. Invade Iran and keep the never ending war going for years.

2. And who says bush isn't a genius
Why hose a country when you can disrupt a whole region of members of a religion that hate us. Great legacy moron.

IRAQ AND THE UNITED STATES WOULD BE MUCH BETTER OFF IF SADDAM WERE STILL IN POWER. Only the ignorant "conservatives" in America who do nothing for our country would think otherwise. And the death toll continues to rise and bush continues to count down the days when he can turn his colossal fuck up over to someone else.

6. Tony Snow: "We're not going to invade Iran" -- Said nothing about an attack.
Earlier today at his press briefing.

10. Yeah but, if we withdraw it would likely be stable and peaceful.
So there is more to the story than "peace and stability". And the rest of the story is spelled O-I-L.

9. Is This Part Of The Plan - * Gets Tony To Pull His UK Troops Out Of Basra.....
Basra gets overrun by Iranians and * says see - this is just one illustration as to what would happen if the U.S. pulled out of Iraq. This is only one city - if we pulled out it would be the whole country. Then he also has reason to go after the Iranians. First in Basra. Then into Iran.

12. Sounds like the Viet Cong are getting their supplies via Cambodia.
If we can cut off supplies from Cambodia, the insurgency will wither on the vine.

13. Oh yeah, the Telegraph. Now THAT'S a credible source!
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 05:38 PM by scarletwoman
This would be the same newspaper that published all those documents a few years back that someone just happened to "find" in Iraq, for which they were taken to court and LOST.

Thanks, Sabra, for posting this sterling example of the propaganda for a war on Iran that's being churned out by a certain faction of the Ruling Elite. In this light, the Telegraph IS a reliable source for picking up on what the latest psyops this particular faction is utilizing in order to re-order the world to their specifications.

17. He said, some said, they said.....what a load of crap.
Iran doesn't need to do any of this stuff. The US has given away tons of arms and ammunition to whomever would like to fight against anyone. Remember all the unguarded and misplaced weaponry? The US has handed Iraq to Iran on a silver platter socio-politically by placing the Shiites in power. Why would Iran even need to do these things when the US does it for them so much more easily?
