Soldiers give Kuchinch an anti-war petition
A group of active-duty U.S. soldiers today presented Cleveland Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich and other anti-war members of Congress with a petition urging U.S. withdrawal from Iraq.

"Staying in Iraq will not work and is not worth the price," said the petition, signed by 1,034 active-duty U.S. soldiers. Kucinich, who arrived at the end of their Capitol Hill news conference because his flight from Cleveland was delayed, said he'd enter it into the Congressional Record.

Marine Sgt. Liam Madden of Quantico, Va., who served in Iraq, said the group decided to present the petition to Congress "because our brothers are dying while politicians are squabbling."

Organizers of the event said Kucinich was targeted because of his outspoken opposition to the war. The rally was also attended by Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Jim McGovern and a representative of Georgia Democratic Rep. John Lewis. (more)

6. Poor bastards who signed
that petition will probably be court martialed or lose a stripe or two....for starters. Chimpy ain't gonna like this....he's the decider, not us.

Hopefully it is the start of a groundswell....

8. Which Dems will give them any support, or condemn any action Bush takes against these brave
men and women? That will be a test for real courage. Dennis Kucinich has met that test so far... anyone else?

17. Chimpy and Cheney will try to blow this off as some sort of poll. We don't
pay attention to polls, this is hardly the voice of the majority of troops, the Commander in Chief has to make tough decisions based on intelligence that can't be made public for national security reasons, blah, blah, blah.

I caught a glimpse of Cheney on Faux this weekend and his line of BS regarding polls.

Speaking of the dick, did you happen to catch this one? (Just stumbled across it)

Honesty, The Cheney Way
The Nation: Is Scooter Libby Honest? By Cheney's Definition, Yes

Dick Cheney worked in the White House of Richard Nixon, who had to resign as Congress began impeachment proceedings that grew out of his dishonest and disreputable stewardship of the presidency

Dick Cheney worked with the White House of Ronald Reagan, which was investigated by Congress and the courts for establishing — and then lying about — a secret plan to violate the law by directing resources to its Iran-Contra co-conspirators in the Middle East and Latin America.

Dick Cheney worked in the White House of George Herbert Walker Bush, who pardoned former Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger, Robert C. McFarlane, Elliott Abrams and others who had been indicted, and in some cases convicted, by Iran-Contra prosecutors.

Dick Cheney left the public sector to work in the corporate sector, where he established close alliances with the executives of Enron and hired the Arthur Andersen accounting firm to manage Halliburton's books.

Dick Cheney then stepped back into the public service as the prince regent to a boy president whose administration stands accused of "fixing" intelligence in order to convince Congress and the American people to support an unnecessary — and ultimately disastrous — invasion and occupation of Iraq. As part of that initiative, Cheney has repeatedly been caught promoting inaccurate claims about the supposed presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and an illusory "connection" between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network.

7. Kucinich is the only one listening to u.s. soldiers who oppose the war.
He is one of the few people who would risk being seen in the same room with these people.
Way to go, Dennis.

Hope Dennis could also give public support to Lt. Watada. First Commission officer to refuse to serve in Bush's aggression against Iraq.

9. Now when dems are accused of not supporting the troops,
they can respond by asking, "which ones?"...(and kindly remind the accuser, there are troops who don't believe they are winning and feel it isn't worth the price.)

31. Ron Kovic was (and is?) a Marine. I've seen him at many
anti-war events in the Los Angeles area. A very compelling witness from the get-go against all this bullshit. (He counseled me not to go to jail because my efforts would be more needed outside of jail.)

25. The soldiers represent Appeal for Redress - www.appealforredress.org
I heard Liam and others interviewed on a show whose name I missed on Nova M Radio Network over the weekend. They were anxious to get the organization's name out - it's funny there is no mention of it in the article or in this thread. They were clear that they were within the rights of members of the military, which surprised me. They said they had not suffered any reprisals so far, and even guessed tacit support from their superiors. I was very impressed by them - this seems like a great way as a push back from the troops the con's claim to support so much.

From the website:

The wording of the Appeal for Redress is short and simple. It is patriotic and respectful in tone.

As a patriotic American proud to serve the nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to support the prompt withdrawal of all American military forces and bases from Iraq . Staying in Iraq will not work and is not worth the price. It is time for U.S. troops to come home.

As a posting newbie I know I don't know all the protocols. Thanks for the greeting.

This gives me a chance to link a great article from The Nation about this group I read after posting the first time - this really is a new movement:

38. Thanks for the link
Excellent, fascinating article. The last paragraph is very telling:

Phil Waste, a 67-year-old retired elevator repairman turned activist with MFSO, with three sons and two grandchildren who have served or are currently deployed in Iraq, thinks the window of opportunity for Democrats to take up the call of organized active-duty dissidents is narrow. If the new Congressional majority dawdles over the war, the Democrats will become targets of the antiwar protesters. "I think those who say they oppose this war have to act now, not months from now," he says. "And I am most definitely talking about the Democrats. This past election was a referendum on the war, and that mandate better be heeded. If not, two years from now they will be out on their butts. And I along with everyone else I know will work my ass off to see that happen."

Welcome to DU, Gin Blossom! :hi:

27. I WANT TO KNOW...
I want to know why the MSM is snubbing Kucinich?

He's been a declared Presidential candidate for a few weeks now.

But NO ONE seems to be mentioning it.

The same goes with Ron Paul (R-Tx).

Both are truly independent individuals and both are somewhat congruous to a grass roots movement versus a sell out media hock personality. Both support Impeachment! Both have been against the war! Both challenge the legality of the Federal Reserves. Both see deficiencies in our foreign policy.

Yet neither even gets a mention by the MSM.

Things that make you go Hummmmmzzzzzz :freak:
