MOSCOW, January 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has completed deliveries of Tor-M1 anti-aircraft missile systems to Iran, the defense minister said Tuesday.

"We have supplied modern anti-aircraft short-range missile systems under a contract. Iran is not under any sanctions," Sergei Ivanov said, adding that Moscow will continue to develop military and technical cooperation with Tehran.

The United States protested the deal, which it feared could bolster the military capabilities of the Islamic Republic, classified by Washington as a "rogue state" and part of "the axis of evil."

The Tor-M1, developed by the Russian company Almaz-Antei, is a high-precision missile system designed to destroy aircraft, manned or unmanned, and cruise missiles flying at an altitude of up to 10 kilometers (6 miles). It was introduced at the Russian aerospace show MAKS in 2005.

I checked them out and the Tor-Mi is very efficient, in the range of 92 to 95% kill probability to 25 miles. The same contract also included some S-300 medium range SAMs which are effective out to around 75 miles. Word is, these are the best there are period. They have about 99% Kill Probability. Bad Juju if one were to have to fly an aircraft about those parts. It would call for the offering of much sacrificing of alcoholic beverage to the goddess of electronic countermeasures.

The S-300PMU2 Favorit can engage targets flying from 10 m to 27 km above the surface at a speed of up to 10,000 km/h. It is claimed that it has a kill ratio ranging from 0.8 to 0.93 against aircraft and from 0.8 to 0.98 against Tomahawk-class cruise missiles.

6. This chess move

hurts Israel more than the greater high tech of the US. It is designed to inhibit Israel while pressure is destroying the US progress toward doing the strike. They are related even if the Israel strike is only pre-arranged saber rattling.

This is not the empty show Russia made in the first Gulf War giving utterly useless stuff to Hussein and possibly intel to the US or standing on the sidelines even less friendly during the Second Gulf War.

If the US stops for any reason, Iran will be substantially grateful to Russia.
