Bolton wants N.Korean regime to collapse
TOKYO - The six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons program have failed and the world should push the impoverished regime toward collapse, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations said Wednesday.

John Bolton, who left the U.N. in December, said the United States and Japan should enlist China and South Korea in efforts to put further pressure on North Korea, which he said has no intention of verifiably giving up its nuclear weapons program.

"The only answer ... is the collapse of the North Korean regime and the hopefully peaceful reunification of Korea, and that should be our objective," Bolton, now a senior fellow at the conservative American Enterprise Institute, told reporters.

1. Well, it's very reasonable to want NK's regime to collapse...
...internally rather than externally. "Pushing" them towards collapse would almost certainly have some nasty consequences for South Korea, maybe Japan. With Kim out of the picture due to poor health/old age instead of an attack, his commanders might have a little more sense and a little less Kim-worshiping nonsense in their heads. They may want to negotiate a way out of the mess Kim has created of North Korea over the past few decades.

2. It's interesting to contrast the way we treat
various communist/totalitarian states.

Russia and China we trade with and export our culture, (and in China's case) our jobs, economic development, investment and we get a trading partner (which is still totalitarian).

North Korea and Cuba we impose sanctions and boycotts and call for their complete destruction.

Why the difference?

I think it's simply because we can. Despite the difference in outcomes from decades of sanctions and economic stranglehold.

5. NK doesn't have a billion cheap laborers
Cuba won't let their political prisoners make teddy bears for Toys 'R Us. Simple, really.

6. Enlist China and S. Korea to cause one of their worst nightmares?
The collapse of North Korea with the hundreds of thousands of refugees it would cause
is the very last thing these two countries want. Obviously, Yosemite Sam Bolton
has learned abolutely nothing from the "creative destruction" in Iraq.

As a private citizen John Bolton is free again to be his obnoxious self, and
another ex-PNAC'er finds a new home at AEI.

9. Good point; a collapse of NKorea would result in possibly
the greatest refugee crisis in history. It's not hard to see where China and SKorea would have an interest in seeing some sore of "soft landing" there.

10. Maddened hungry
militarized society with incredible stores of weapons and nukes and a state instilled climate of paranoia and hysteria. Oh yeah, a collapse would be peachy. Maybe their neighbors should make it happen and enjoy it as much as Bolton will from afar. The South Koreans should be working hard for this brotherly paroxysm
of sudden death and chaos.

Besides his utterly evil intent Bolton is also an idiot for trying to sell it. Pressure. He could do with an extreme application of pressure himself- as a witness for the prosecution dealing down for a life sentence.

Just from the weight of the lies, one would think...
