Reputed major Israeli trafficker pleads guilty
January 17, 2007

FORT LAUDERDALE - An Israeli described as one of the world's biggest drug traffickers pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiring to import thousands of ecstasy tablets into the United States and was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Zeev Rosenstein, 52, will serve his time in Israel.

Rosenstein was extradited from Israel in March to face charges of conspiring to distribute more than 850,000 ecstasy pills. The Drug Enforcement Administration listed him as one of the 44 biggest global traffickers, saying his network spanned four continents.

9. like this guy
Ami Popper, who is serving several life sentences for the 1990 murder of seven Palestinians, was moderately injured in a road accident Wednesday night while driving on the Arava Road. Popper's wife and son were killed in the accident and his other son was moderately injured.

Popper was sentenced to seven life terms after being convicted of killing seven Palestinian workers from Gaza who were waiting to begin work in Rishon Letzion in 1990, but his sentence was subsequently commuted to 40 years."

3. I've been telling people for years that Israel is the big
supplier of E to the US.

I wonder if this bust has been on the MSN?

4. Isn't 17 years for something as harmless as E excessive?
I mean , selling all the legal drugs like Zoloft and Prozac that don't do shit are ok , but selling something that really makes you happy is a crime ?

6. People routinely get sentences like that for even possession of crack cocaine
And many a crackhead has assured me that they feel quite happy while doing it.:)

People are still being jailed over the anti-drug laws, even when some say (quite credibly) that the anti-drug laws are just a money machine which don't really make the world a better place.

That said, let this bastard serve his time. He could've found a more socially acceptable way to make his mega-bucks--like becoming an arms contractor. Or buying a humongous double skyscraper, doubling the insurance on it, then feigning dismay when it falls directly down in what looks eerily like a controlled demolition.

None of those guys are in jail.
