Nicotine in cigarettes rising: Harvard study
BOSTON (Reuters) - The amount of nicotine that smokers typically inhale per cigarette rose by 11 percent from 1998 to 2005, perpetuating a "tobacco pandemic" that makes it harder for smokers to quit, a Harvard study said on Thursday.

Harvard School of Public Health researchers analyzed data submitted by major cigarette brands to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, which in August released its own study showing nicotine levels steadily rising.

The amount of nicotine that smokers typically consume per cigarette regardless of brand per year rose by an average of 1.6 percent between 1998 and 2005, according to the Harvard analysis of the state's health records.

"Cigarettes are finely tuned drug delivery devices designed to perpetuate a tobacco pandemic," said Howard Koh, the school's associate dean for public health practice and former Massachusetts commissioner of public health.

6. Tobacco companies are the most evil corporations on Earth
Why people are willing to give them money for something that is designed to kill them, I'll never know.

10. Good.
I want more nicotine in my Cigs. I'm just about tired of all the anti smoking, pot, or whatever vice you choose postings. I know the smokes are bad for me, but you know what I don't care. I enjoy them and I'm going do die from something some day so I might as well enjoy the time I have. Plus with all the pollution in our air and chemicals in my food I don't see how smoking is worse than breathing or eating anyway. This issue is so dead. I understand you don't want people smoking in a restaurant were you are trying to eat or even in your vicinity. Thats fine and I don't smoke in front of people that find it offensive unless they are a jackass about it. I also don't understand how democrats mostly are for decriminalization of pot, and at the same time deride cigarette smokers and companies. It's not like people don't know cigarettes are bad for them. I also think that all the anti smoking rhetoric does as much harm as good. History shows that when you outlaw something or make it taboo more people especially the young people want to take part in it. Thats my rant for today.

Screw King George
Impeach now!

Pretty soon they'll make the 'Everlasting Cigarette'. One per day is all you need. Just light the tip, inhale once, snuff it out, and put it back in some sort of hard-sided holder for later. Repeat as needed.

Imagine how much healhier we'll be! One cigarette delievering the nicotine of twenty! We'll be cutting the amount of tar, methane, cyanide, carbon monoxide, etc. inhaled, by 95%!!!

You'll be down to less than two packs a month!

And imagine the increased productivity!

"Hey, I'm going out for a smoke. Be right back." <flick><inhale><snuff> "Okay, I'm back!"

No more of this <flick><inhale><exhale><inhale><exhale><inhale><exhale><inhale><exhale><cough><cough><cough>
<inhale><exhale><inhale><exhale><inhale><exhale><inhale><exhale><inhale><cough>
<exhale><inhale><exhale><inhale><exhale><inhale><exhale><inhale><cough><exhale><snuff> crap.

This is especially crucial in for people in the Northern Tier, where you need a parka to take a cigarette break.

Woo-hoo!

<edit: had to put some breaks in the inhale/exhale line to keep it narrow enough>
