Bush hails abortion foes at annual rally
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - President Bush told thousands of abortion rights opponents Monday that he shares their goal of seeing "the day when every child is welcomed in life and protected into law."

Bush defended his record on "building a culture of life," and signaled his unchanged opposition to a key goal of the Democrats who now control Congress: broadening embryonic stem-cell research.

"Our challenge is to make sure that science serves the cause of humanity instead of the other way around," the president said in a telephone call piped over loudspeakers to a Washington rally of opponents of abortion rights. "I have made clear to the Congress, we must pursue medical advances in the name of life, not at the expense of it."

Bush calls the rally each year, usually from distant locations. This year, he extended his weekend stay at the Camp David presidential retreat in the Maryland mountains to phone the participants from there.

6. Every child is welcomed in life and protected into law...
Edited on Mon Jan-22-07 02:27 PM by AndyA
until they become soldiers, at which point their life is meaningless.

Or, if they're gay. Or poor.

Just a few stipulations to clarify the meaning of Bush's spoken words. Actions speak louder than words, and Bush clearly couldn't care less about death and destruction.

He didn't stop 9/11, and he could have.

He hasn't pulled our troops out of harm's way, and he could.

He doesn't care. The words that come out of his mouth are meaningless.

Bush is a hypocrit, among other things.

7. Wonder why the lives of 'his' soldiers have so little meaning to him? Wish someone would ask the
SOB how his 'culture of life' has worked out for the 655,000 Iraqis his 'vision' has killed.

10. He actually phoned it in again??
Wow sooner or later these people, you'd think, would realize that they are being lead around by the nose and that this "pro-life" President and all his noise machinery haven't solved this issue for them....you'd think now wouldn't you?

12. That's worthy of a new thread, actually
I'm kinda pressed for time though and I just wanted to mention I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Both Duhbya and Poppy always phoned in their support at these stupid rallies. Every goddamned year.

Isn't that more than a little odd? Isn't that the equivalent of welcoming someone into your home by letting them come and go through the servant's entrance?

More to the point--why doesn't this lame-duck President just go on stage and lend in-person support? It's not like he has anything to lose by doing so at this point.

13. They usually have this rally right across the street from the White House
One year Bush was actually sitting in the building not 300 yards from them. The news coverage had the visual of two giant speakers on a flat bed trunk piping out the disembodied voice of W to the crowd.

I see that this year they had him at Camp David.

The servants' entrance is a great comparison.
