In Video, Al Qaeda No. 2 Al-Zawahiri Taunts President Bush's New Iraq Plan

<snip>

“Why send 20,000 only, why not send 50 or 100 thousand?" al-Zawahiri asks in a video intercepted by SITE Institute. "Aren't you aware that the dogs of Iraq are pining for your troops' dead bodies?”

According to SITE, the 14 minute speech titled “The Correct Equation” was produced by the Al Qaeda's media arm as-Sahab and was set to be posted on the WEB.

16. Ha! Good point.
As if Bush can be insulted about troops dying.

Now, if he meant less oil revenues, now that would be an insult.

9. ABC news reported on a purported 6 month old story about
some supposed terrorists in Iraq who wanted to attack on US soil. Why they waited 6 months to tell us? Hmmmm...oh yeah! Let's print this story right before the SOTU address. Too convenient.

:grr:

15. what's the SITE Institute
don't we have government agencies involved in whatever matters this 'institute' does? is another tax exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization think tank really needed here? who/what is funding the 2-person staff's salary, rent, etc.?

http://www.siteinstitute.org/

The Search for International Terrorist Entities (SITE) Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to the comprehension of the underlying threat of terrorism, the discovery of sources of terrorism, and the prevention of terrorism.

The Institute is directed by Rita Katz who describes herself as "one of the foremost experts in the United States on terrorism". The Washington Post describes her as, "an Iraqi-born private investigator who tracks Muslim activists who she says support terrorism".

The listed staff consists of two individuals

20. That is unbelievably blatant propaganda.
Oddly, this is the second time today I've heard of this "SITE" organization.

But, look at the links that the site provides. Then ask yourself, exactly what use does the American public have for this?

It's propaganda.

In other words, some agent fed the video to the propaganda clearinghouse.

25. Group Says Al-Qaida No. 2 Mocks Bush
Group says Al-Qaida No. 2 mocks Bush By NADIA ABOU EL-MAGD, Associated Press Writer
7 minutes ago

CAIRO, Egypt - Al-Qaida's deputy leader mocked President Bush's plan to send 21,000 more troops to Iraq, challenging him to send "the entire army," according to a new al-Qaida videotape released Monday by a U.S. group that tracks terror messages.

Excerpts from the video were distributed by the Washington-based SITE Institute, which said it had intercepted the footage of Ayman al-Zawahri. The tape had not yet been posted on Islamic militant Web sites, where his messages are usually placed.

Al-Zawahri said the U.S. strategy for Iraq, outlined by Bush in a Jan. 9 speech, was doomed to fail.

"I ask him, why send 20,000 (troops) only — why not send 50 or 100 thousand? Aren't you aware that the dogs of Iraq are pining for your troops' dead bodies?" said al-Zawahri in the footage released by SITE, an independent group that researches and analyzes terror-related intelligence.

"So send your entire army to be annihilated at the hands of the mujahideen (holy warriors) to free the world from your evil," he said, "because Iraq, land of the Caliphate and Jihad, is able to bury ten armies like yours, with Allah's help and power."

27. Um, I'm confused.
First Cheney tells us we can't leave Iraq because that's what Osama wants.
Now Osama's #2 tells us he wants more troops in the firing line.

Something doesn't add up here...

29. Gee I thought the idea was to fight the war in Iraq or wherever they are
But it looks like it makes it easier for al-Qaeda to fight their war because they don't have to spend their resources on transporting and living necessities. And they are in their natural habitat so they can blend in with the civilians much easier then they can blend in if they were in United States.

30. This is getting ludicrous! This is how Bush promotes his ideas?
I mean.. every time he's getting resistance or is up against a formidable oponenent, one of these guys releases a tape that takes the Democrats side of things. I'm not a tin foiler, and would never WANT to believe that the US has a dirty secret about our involvement.. somehow.. with these people. But tell me why they seem to come out every time Bush needs them. You know, for the 'if AQ thinks this, then we have to do the opposite). It worked against Kerry on that last-minute video right before the election. SOmeone rational, please explain to me why I shouldn't be paranoid about this.
