After Cheney's Private Hunt, Others Take Their Shots
All of which brings us to Mr. Cheney's bird-hunting trip at the exclusive Rolling Rock Club in the hills of southwestern Pennsylvania last Monday, when he and nine others in his party shot some 400 out of 500 pen-raised pheasants released for the morning hunt. No one might have noticed the episode if The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had not reported it, including the detail that the vice president had shot more than 70 of the ring-necked pheasants himself.

As a result, a lot of other people noticed the fallen birds: hunters who pursue birds in the wild, the Democratic presidential candidates and the Humane Society of the United States, which likened the shootings to the first day of the Iraq war.

"This can only be called a shooting-gallery operation," said Wayne Pacelle, the senior vice president of the Humane Society, who pronounced himself outraged. "Hunting is supposed to involve some opportunity for the animal to evade the hunter. Hunting in this setting is reduced to mass killing."

1. Cheney prefers shooting fish in a barrel.
How disgusting and appropriate for Cheney.

Another reason for hunters to despise the BushCo regime.

2. is there any aspect of that "man's" life that is not blood-soaked?
It is incomprehensible to me that anyone would gain pleasure from the wanton slaughter of 70 pheasants. This is a monster, not a man.

3. Is the Press going to pounce on this?
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 08:25 AM by The Zanti Regent
Remember how the Whore Press pounced on Al Gore when he went rafting?

Remember how the press lied about all the water that went to waste?

Are they going to do the same to Cheney? Will you see this in the SCREW YORK TIMES, WHORESHINGTON POST, or LIES ANGELES TIMES?

Doubt it!

4. I love the end quote of the article:
"Something here doesn't add up," said David Wade, Mr. Kerry's spokesman. "The Bush administration says the economy is improving, but their millionaire vice president has to hunt for his own food."

5. Again: This isn't hunting.
Real hunters appreciate conservation and take only what they need. Cheney, et al, are greedy heartless bastards with apparent erectile disfunction needing to "get it off" with a shotgun.

6. They somehow got it that
shock and awe is for the birds. Don't these neo-cons just love death and mayhem. :-(

7. Actually, the duck hunting warrants more investigation
The newspaper also said Mr. Cheney had spent Monday afternoon at the club shooting an undetermined number of mallard ducks.

Duck hunting is very strictly regulated, with rather small limits on how many ducks you can kill at one time. It's been many years since I've been duck hunting, but if I remember corrrectly, 10 is the most mallards you can kill in one outing. Given the gluttony of his pheasant hunt, you have to wonder if he stayed within the legal limits for the ducks.

11. I'm not up on hunting rules, but I wonder
if the fact that the hunt was held on the grounds of an exclusive private club, with stocked birds, would make a difference. I mean, it's not like he stalked them in the wild, in their natural habitat, and brought them down. It was a canned hunt, incredibly despicable.

8. I find this disgusting
I understand hunting as a sport where the animal has a better than average chance at outwitting the hunter in the wild but this is a canned hunt and it sucks!

I am so disgusted at this "sportsman". Does Lynne cook all these pheasants for Sunday dinner?

10. They will be used for some fundraiser...
If the GOP corporate whores will spend a couple grand for hotdogs, imagine hoe much they would pay for pheasant "personally shot by the Vice (p)Resident?

14. It was probably spin control but I did hear a Cheney
spokesperson say the birds had been donated to a hunger kitchen in D.C., said the VP always does that. I think they may have actually donated this time to get the heat off this hunt created. I don't believe the spin he's always done that.

13. Some sport
It's really sick that a person gets pleasure, finds entertaining, the killing of esentially helpless and harmless creatures.

It's so much worse when it's the vice president of the country.

15. For REAL???
Cheney shot these birds while they were still in the cages.

Now that is SICK!

Do you have any more links to articles that say he sat down and shot the birds in cages?

Not that I don't believe you. I want to send the links to some people I know.

16. REAL Hunters clean their Kill, prepare them for cooking/freezing/
preservation.

I doubt Cheney cleaned his birds.
