ATHENS, Greece -- A militant group claimed responsibility for a rocket attack
against the U.S. Embassy earlier this month, and said in a statement published
Thursday the strike was in response to U.S. military involvement in Iraq,
Afghanistan and Somalia.
The far-left group Revolutionary Struggle said the Jan. 12 attack was "our own
response to the criminal war on `terrorism' that the U.S. has launched
throughout the planet."
The statement, published in the Pontiki weekly newspaper, also blamed Greece's
governing conservatives for backing U.S. policies, and accused Foreign Minister
Dora Bakoyannis of "kowtowing to the U.S."
Police forensic experts were examining the document to verify its authenticity.
Militant groups in Greece often send declarations to newspapers as a way of
claiming responsibility for attacks.

ATHENS, Jan 25 (Reuters) - Leftist guerrillas who fired a grenade at the American
embassy in Athens this month threatened on Thursday to stage more attacks on
Greek and U.S. targets.
The Revolutionary Struggle group claimed responsibility for the attack in a five-
page proclamation published in an Athens weekly, criticising the United States
and its ally Greece.
-snip-It mentioned Greece's Public Order Minister Byron Polydoras and Foreign Minister
Dora Bakoyanni, who rushed to the embassy soon after the attack to publicly
condemn it, calling them "praetorians" of the U.S. government.
Such references by Greek guerrilla groups sometimes indicate new targets.
