Warner says U.S. military has been misleading Congress

WASHINGTON Senator John Warner says U-S military commanders "misled" senators on the Iraqi military's ability to oversee security operations.

The Republican was unusually combative today in a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.

Warner told the former vice chief of staff of the Army that he's disappointed more Iraqi troops aren't taking on a greater security role in Baghdad.

Warner was referring to past committee hearings in which U-S military leaders had assured senators that more American troops would not be needed in Iraq.

Retired General John Keane replied that "growing and developing an army from scratch" takes time.

12. Bush will blame anyone for his stupidity and lack of ability to
ananlyze situations. Any brain dead person would have understood why pappy Bush did not take out SAddam. He was a buffer, a secular buffer. Look at what the filthy privilged puff brain has done to our country's military and our standing in the world. Look at the death he has caused just to help American corporations steal oil and get fake contracts to rape our treasury. Its hard to believe one horrible person could do so much damage in so short a period of time, but Hitler and Stalin did worse. He should be impeached.

7. Misleading? Here's a great historical review of our "progress" in training Iraqi forces.
New Huế Forward

I was going to post some excerpts, but it was too hard to pick small bits out. It really deserves to be read in toto.

9. The question is not "did" the military mislead congress - the question is "why"
Is it possible the the military leaders deliberately misled congress?

If yes, then was it a political move? Were they forced to do so by the Administration?

If no, then the problem is more serious than any of us yet realize.

10. Sen. Warner, don't blame the military
You go to war with the military you have, not the one you want. At least that line of crap was ok for the last 4 years. You, Mr. Warner, rubber stamped every supplement this administration asked for. You Mr. Warner did not ask a hard question about this in how many years? You, Mr. Warner, never stood up to Rumsfeld, Chenney, Wolfowitz, Bush, Rove, Libby or the rest of them. Had you done your job and slapped them down on day one, instead of being a partisan, we would not be in this mess. You, Mr. Warner, stood by while Gen. Shinsheki was asked to spend more time with his family. You, Mr. Warner, did not pay attention to the reported efforts by this administration to have BS news from Iraq being broadcast so the picture looked rosier than it is. You, Mr. Warner did not pay attention to the fact that this administration was saying that there were thousands of Iraqis trained, until they had to come before congress and speak. Then the number became only a few hundred. You, Mr. Warner, would not have to act so upset if you had done your job in the first place. You, Mr. Warner are probably more upset that your lazy, partisan behavior should be called felony negligence and it is coming to light. Do your job next time Mr. Warner and you won't have to fake the outrage. More importantly, quit blaming others for your failures. Until you have a press conference that spends an hour apologizing for your slack ass behavior and explaining the ramifications of it, you have no business criticizing the military. Mr Warner, the military is not perfect, you were happy though with its flaws and lack of progress until yesterday. Why? Because you and your republican ilk are nothing more than a stain on the fabric of our society.

13. "growing and developing an army from scratch" takes time.
We have already spent more time in Iraq than in WW II where we grew the US Army pretty much from scratch and helped defeat the largest threat against the world since Genghis Khan...
