Rice Asks Allies to Increase Afghan Aid
Rice Asks Allies to Increase Afghan Aid

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice asked allies Friday to intensify their efforts to keep the Taliban from retaking parts of Afghanistan, and asserted a resurgence in Taliban attacks does not mean the U.S. war strategy has failed.

Rice made her appeal a day after the Bush administration said it would ask Congress for $10.6 billion to help the embattled Afghan government. The U.S. hopes its hefty increase will serve as an incentive for other countries to boost their contributions.

Rice convened Friday's session to plan for another expected Taliban military offensive in the spring.

"If there is to be a 'spring offensive,' it must be our offensive," Rice told the group. NATO's top commander pledged on Friday to launch such an offensive against resurgent Taliban forces in the south and east of Afghanistan.

4. We went into Afghanistan to catch Osama - he obviously isn't there
so why are we going to leave Iraq (hopefully) and not Afghanistan? They have accomplished not more there than in Iraq unless you county the poppy crop. We need to stop trying to fight the so called war on terror with military troops. It is and always has been a legal issue for the various law enforcement agencies of this world.

5. Maybe they're still working on the pipeline.
I don't think they went to AFG for Osama, it was just a ruse to get their pipeline deal.

Well, at least they got the fat Osama's alleged confession tape from some house in some bombed out village.

7. Because losing TWO (2) wars just sucks Condi
As I so helpfully pointed out shortly after September 11, 2001.....

THE AFGHANS ARE THE MEANEST, TOUGHEST SUM-BITCHES ON THE PLANET and we cannot win. They kicked the British out twice, they kicked the Soviets out. They are the worlds experts at getting bombed and then standing up and shooting back at you.

Short of rendering Afghanistan an irradiated wasteland incapable of supporting a New York rat we have no hope of winning a war there.
