By Thomas Ferraro

CAMBRIDGE, Md., Jan 26 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush met privately with House
Republicans on Friday and agreed to an alternative resolution to set "benchmarks" for
progress in his plan to send more troops to Iraq, party officials said.

Conferring with lawmakers from his party, which lost control of the House of Representatives
last November, Bush was confronted with their plan to hold him accountable for the revised
strategy, which has been widely criticized by Democrats and some Republicans.

"He deferred to the leadership," Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia said after a closed-door,
question-and-answer session with Bush, who has denounced other congressional efforts to
oppose his plan to send 21,500 more troops into Iraq.

The House Republican resolution, which may be offered as early as next week, calls for the
creation of military, political and social "benchmarks" to monitor the success of an increase
in U.S. troops, and hold Bush and Iraqi government accountable.

But the resolution will be the one passed by the majority,
and the majority happen to be members of the Democratic party.

"Conferring with lawmakers from his party, which lost control of the House of Representatives
last November ...."

So the "Decider has decided what kind of resolution the House will pass?

My God bush is so stupid.

3. I don't care if he sets benchmarks. I demand a resolution from the House
condemning his little 'surge' and the total war.

4. I Wonder How Many Months They'll Waste Coming Up W/Benchmarks?
I'm sure they'll get on that right away, and the benchmarks will be challenging and will be indicitive.

Oh......and I'm Suuuuuurrreeee that the WH won't have any say when it comes to determining these benchmarks. If they do, then look for them to be easily achieved, and insignificant.

5. Well, that is nice of him to do so.
Our Esteemed Mr. Bush, may have missed the little election thing that happened last November, but it is nice he is talking with someone in Congress, that in itself is a huge leap forward for him.

6. his plan to send 21,500 more troops
is like the Hail Mary Pass, to try to salvage the plan of a bunch of chicken hawks without a clue as to what combat really involves.

Unlike the Hail Mary Pass, significantly more American lives can be lost.

7. "deferred to the leadership"?
What "leadership"? Oh yeah right... that of HIS kiss up Greedy Old Pretenders party "leaders" who are the MINORITY party. We know darn well that he has not, and more then likely will not, listen to or defer to the REAL leadership... that of the increasing majority of American people and the party THEY gave the MAJORITY leadership to in November. :grr:
