15. Have you ever noticed that Burns looks a lot like Dick Cheney?
Edited on Fri Jan-26-07 09:23 PM by MN Against Bush
And his politics are very similar to those of Burns as well. The similarities are remarkable. I could even see him putting his hands together like that and saying "excellent". Although he is certainly not going to do that now that he has to testify however.

Edited on Fri Jan-26-07 08:46 PM by NI4NI
Libby's on trial for perjury, not that he outed Mrs. Wilson.
So, will Fitz allow Libby's attorney plenty of leeway in questioning Rove (or Chaney)about who actually outed Wilson without objecting due to relevance?
Man, this is gettin' good!

10. Actually, it was Air Force One.
I remember seeing the video on CNN about two years ago, after shrub won re-election. It was some inside joke that never got explained, but Rove went out in front of the jet and laid down right in front of the giant tire. Too bad the plane didn't somehow lurch forward a foot or two.

37. Yep. I remember that photo, too. What I thought at the time was that
rove was playing some sort of farcical "you bet your life" with bush, telling him something like - "if I'm lyin', I'm dyin' - you ARE gonna win the election. So help me God. I'll lay down right here and let AF1 run right over me if I'm wrong."

I saw speculation elsewhere here (pure speculation, but fun-fun-fun) about how this evidently is a modus operendi of Fitzgerald's, and how he finally nailed his way up to indicting, trying, and convicting then-Governor Ryan of Illinois. Took him 50 convictions, working his way up the food chain, but that's how he did it. The speculation fantasized about the ultimate objective being bush. Wouldn't that be something!?

Rove will not come across well to the jurors. He thinks they're beneath him, and the contempt is going to show.

As for Bartlett, what a sleazy little wimp he is. Fitzgerald is going to wipe the floor with him.

Ever so steadily climbing up the ladder to the higher levels of the White House. I can't wait for Snarlin' Dick to be seated in the witness chair, swear to tell the truth, and then start lying his fat ass off.

11. The Clash of the Titans.
You know, I've noticed this about local good ole boys. You can never get them by yourself, the little guy against Goliath and his brothers. Frontal attacks, like civil lawsuits, don't really work unless you have lots and lots of money. However, if you convince one that the others are bonking his wife behind his back, maybe, just maybe you'll get to see them air their dirty laundry when they attack each other.

17. Rove's been subpoenaed as a witness for the defense. Not the prosecution.
As to whether or not Libby's team will actually have him testify, that remains to be seen. It could be a feint. Or not. I rather doubt Rove's possible testimony as least as reported in the Newsweek article would be of significant help to Libby by the time the prosecution has rested its case. Additionally, I suspect having Rove on the stand overall is a potentially greater risk than help for Libby. We'll see.

22. Yeah, it is fascinating. One thing I remember is when Joe Wilson said in his book he was told that
Rove was furious with Libby/Cheney when it came out that the leak was seriously illegal and the problems that created for him and the White House. Rove supposedly turned on Libby and told him he wouldn't take the fall for the OVP's scheme.

IF Libby did indeed lie to Rover about how he learned about Valerie Wilson's employment and led Rove on to get him in on the game, how risky would it be to have Rove on the stand? And subject to cross by Fitz?

Since they're all snakes, it may be fun to find out. :)

25. The big double-cross:
Libby sets up Rove. Rove finds out he might be in legal deep shit, tells Libby he won't take the fall.

Rove is on the verge of indictment, and makes a deal with Fitz. Libby alone remains on the hot plate.

Team Libby needs to exonerate Scooter any way possible, which ends up being: make the water as muddy as possible. Drag Rove into it, and say he did bad things too. Rove has a deal with Fitz, but he ends up under oath, subpoenaed by Team Libby, and is forced into jeopardy he thought he had avoided by turning on Libby.

So: who double-crossed who?

:)

28. No doubt Libby's team wants to muddy things as much as possible. But pointing the finger at Rove
doesn't absolve Libby from charges of lying and perjury. And by the time the defense gets to present its case, it's going to look even worse for Scooter than it does now I figure.

I just don't see how Libby can really go after Rove without further incriminating himself. What's Rove going to do? Admit that he and Libby conspired to leak Plame's employment to the media? That doesn't help Libby at all.

Man this is better than the Sopranos. :D

46. I think Karl was subpoenaed "in case of emergency".
Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 01:34 PM by Patsy Stone
Since Walton said that the "memory defense" would only be admitted if Scooter took the stand, and Wells seems to want to get around him taking the stand, I think Wells is keeping all of his options open. It seems to me (and IANAL) that in the opening he laid out all possible defense "strategeries", and the "not taking the fall for Rove" tack will be his last ditch effort.

I can't see how Karl's testimony would help him out either. Just because "Karl was doing it too", it doesn't exonerate Scooter.

54. Don't count on the truth coming out
Every single "investigation" this administration has been subject to has been a dog-and-pony show designed to sweep the truth under the rug and convince the masses that everything's okay. This trial may be in a different venue, but I have no reason to believe that this will end up any different. Scooter will be made the scapegoat for the whole thing, and then he'll be pardoned.

No way in hell will Dick Cheney let the real truth come out. It just won't happen.
