Lawmaker: Iran installing centrifuges

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran is currently installing 3,000 centrifuges at a uranium enrichment plant, an Iranian lawmaker said Saturday, a day after a senior U.S. diplomat warned that the country's plans to accelerate its nuclear program "would be a major miscalculation."

The Iranian lawmaker, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, said the installation "stabilizes Iran's capability in the field of nuclear technology," the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

"We are right now installing 3,000 centrifuges," Boroujerdi, the head of the Iranian Parliament's Foreign Policy and National Security Committee, was quoted as saying by IRNA.

Large scale use of centrifuges is necessary to enrich enough uranium for use in a nuclear reactor. Highly enriched uranium is required to make nuclear weapons.

Iran nuclear installation denied

Iran's nuclear body has denied claims by a senior MP that it has begun installing 3,000
nuclear centrifuges to boost its uranium enrichment.

Hossein Simorgh, of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation, said there were no new centrifuges
at its Natanz plant.

The earlier claim was made by Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of the foreign affairs and national
security committee.

Some Western nations fear Iran is trying to build nuclear arms but Tehran insists its
programme is peaceful.

Why is there no discussion of where these centifuges were manufactured, where the parts came from, whether Iran has the indigenous engineering capability to produce the centrifuges, etc?

There is an element of probative value referred to as the internal consistency and detail of a report, which is completely lacking in the reports of this nuclear engineering developement in Iran.

Sure, 3000 centrifuges sound like a lot, until you take into consideration the fact that it will take 50,000 centrifuges to enrich uranium to weapons grade material. Oh, and even with all those centrifuges, it would take the Iranians ten years to do so.
