Pelosi Meets With Troops in Afghanistan
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 4:50 a.m. ET

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ate breakfast with soldiers from California on Sunday and met briefly with top military leaders at the largest U.S. base in Afghanistan, an official said.

Pelosi and her congressional delegation stopped at the U.S. base in Bagram for about an hour, where she thanked soldiers from the 10th Mountain and 82nd Airborne divisions for their service, said Lt. Col. David Accetta, a U.S. military spokesman.

She also spoke briefly with Maj. Gen. Benjamin Freakley, the top U.S. general in Afghanistan.

..little more at link..

having Rep. John Murtha with her to help filter the BS is IMHO a smart move..

3. I hope so. There was a nice one in her hometown. I would think word
of that, and the rest of 'em, would get back to her via her staff. Hope they added a mention of all the pro-IMPEACHMENT signs!

4. Nancy Pelosi continues to amaze me with her perspicacity.
Her political acumen is ably demonstrated by by her actions regarding impeachment.
How could she manage to arouse so many people toward impeaching the head of the criminal cabal, something that needed to be done coming from the people.

Prior to her "off the table" comment, there was a number of us who were quite sure that bush should be impeached, as a civic duty, but it was a kind of background hum, lacking the driving passion that is needed to actually accomplish the deed. She had to do something dramatic that would really wind people up without leaving them too awfully pissed at her and she managed it.
Thoroughly awesome woman.

20. Gosh. How non-specific.
No commitment. No information.

Guess I better be nervous too.

21. Oh, sorry.
I'm nervous for her physical safety. That's a wild place over there. It takes a lot of guts to just get off the plane. Her head on a platter would be a real Taliban coup.

18. It's a courtesy and hopefully a boost for morale...
...for somebody like Speaker Pelosi to meet with and personally thank those who are actually involved.
If she had left without doing so it would have reflected poorly upon her.

Soldiers remember who took time out of their busy important lives to actually ACKNOWLEDGE them and what they are doing.
It makes a difference. :patriot:

11. It was a good move bringing both Lantos and Skelton along.
Rep. Tom Lantos (D-CA) heads up the newly renamed House Foreign Affairs Committee and Ike Skelton (D-MO) is the new chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

14. For good reasons
from the link. The attention being paid to Afghanistan by Democrats is a way for them to highlight their seriousness about the fight against international terrorism and say that the Bush administration ''led us in the wrong direction'' in Iraq, said Marvin Weinbaum, a former State Department analyst on Afghanistan, now scholar at the Middle East Institute.

15. Our soldiers should be in Afghanistan, where the 9/11 attacks actually
originated from. Iraq is a flim-flam.

19. Pelosi's interview with the president

In an interview, Nancy Pelosi said that she was puzzled by what she considered the president's minimalist explanation for his confidence in the new surge of 21,500 U.S. troops that he has presented as the crux of a new "way forward" for U.S. forces in Iraq.

PELOSI: He's tried this two times — it's failed twice. I asked him at the White House, 'Mr. President, why do you think this time it's going to work?'

BUSH: Because I told them it had to.

PELOSI: Why didn't you tell them that the other two times?
