Marines order probe into leak of government report on killing of Iraqi civilians in Haditha
ASSOCIATED PRESS

CAMP PENDLETON – The Marine Corps said Monday that it has ordered a probe into how a government report on the killings of Iraqi civilians in the town of Haditha was leaked to the news media.

Lt. Gen. James Mattis, the top general at Camp Pendleton, ordered the investigation after several defense attorneys complained that sensitive information about their clients had been leaked, Marine spokesman Lt. Col. Sean Gibson said.

The Washington Post published photos and eyewitness accounts on Jan. 6 from the military's investigative file that had not been made public. One photo showed five Iraqis who had been shot dead near a taxi.

...

Jack Zimmerman, attorney for one of the accused Marines, Lance Cpl. Stephen Tatum, said Mattis ordered the investigation on Jan. 23.

“I was very pleased that he shared our thought that the investigation should never be released,” Zimmerman said.

What's the hell does this mean. Of course we (the world) have a right to know. These guys who cold-bloodedly murdered these Iraqis should face the same damn justice they would face here if they stole a damn dime out of a rich man's pocket (because that's what really counts, isn't it)?

2. I'm paying the freight on this
I'm not entitled to know what my tax dollars are buying in Iraq? Very nice.

Sorry, but I've forgotten how to bow down at the altar of the military and their national security fetishes. These guys want me to pay for the atrocities, the follow-up, the investigation, and the cover-up, be a good little gratuitous and not ask any questions? Not for me, thanks. I want to know what's going on in my name and my country's name, and I want to decide whether I want to continue funding it.
