Honours police arrest Lord Levy : (Blair crony arrested on conspiracy charges)
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 01:13 PM by TheBaldyMan
The latest development in the ongoing saga of New Labour sleaze is breaking on BBC News. Lord Levy, chief fundraiser for the Labour party in Britain has been arrested on the charge of conspiracy to pervert the cause of justice.

Lord Levy had previously been arrested then released without charge regarding allegations of awarding government appointments to major party donors, this lead to a string of Downing Street officials and party apparatchiks helping the police with their enquiries. A few days ago Tony Blair was questioned in connection with the inquiry into the cash for peerages scandal, the equivalent of selling a life-time seat in the senate.

Blair's fundraiser arrested again
POSTED: 6:41 a.m. EST, January 31, 2007

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- The top fundraiser for British Prime Minister Tony Blair's Labour Party was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, a police source said.

Labour fundraiser Lord Michael Levy was arrested when he returned to a London police station for a bail hearing in connection with alleged offences in a loans-for-favors scandal following his first arrest last year.

Levy, Blair's personal Middle East envoy, denied any wrongdoing.

"Lord Levy went to the police station today as asked," a spokesman for Levy said in a statement.

"He was interviewed again. He completely denies any allegations of wrongdoing whatsoever. He left the police station in the early afternoon and since there is a continuing investigation he will not make any further comments at this time."

Police said in a statement a man had been arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.

Levy was first arrested in July 2006 as part of a police investigation into a long-simmering party funding scandal that has hurt Blair amid a series of sleaze and mismanagement allegations surrounding members of his cabinet.
