CNN reporting: Iran may have been behind the "sneak attack" in Karbala

in which 5 troops were killed last week. They site the high level of sophistication as a reason that Iran may have been behind the attack

Just as a side note. Would anyone like to wonder why this story has been muddled with vagueness for several days. First the troops were said to have died in the attack, then it came out that they were "executed" from shootings in the head at point blank range. This still does not answer the whole "speak english, carry US weapons, driving GMC Yukons"....

32. From Douglas Adam's "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy"...
....The history of warfare is similarly subdivided, although here the phases are Retribution, Anticipation, and Diplomacy. Thus:

Retribution:
I'm going to kill you because you killed my brother.

Anticipation:
I'm going to kill you because I killed your brother.

Diplomacy:
I'm going to kill my brother and then kill you on the
pretext that your brother did it.

We know republicon operative Ollie North is also backing the Iranians, since he equipped them with our US Hawk missiles.

This is really getting complex.

I hate to even think it, but I think this Govt. has sunk to a new LOW!! The first thing that popped into my head was BLACK OPS !!! Remember one of the soldiers killed had just spoken to Sen. Kerry and Sen. Dodd the day before this went down!! I agree that the Iraqi's aren't smart enough, or brave enough to have pulled this off. It was just too slick. I wish someone had survived this murder in cold blood!!! English speaking, American uniforms, American vehicles and they were Irani's ? Come on, WE ARE NOT AS STUPID as they think we are.

69. Why the CIA? Why not Halliburton?
It has the signature of a false-flag operation because the victims involved met with potential anti-war politicians, and it also appears to be unique among the various ways people in the region have discovered to kill Americans. The Vice President's company (which is still paying him in absentia) employs large numbers of former special operations troops as mercenaries.

However, it also has the signature of a reprisal operation from Iran, payback for the raiding of an Iranian consulate in Kurdish Iraq and the kidnapping of six Iranian nationals there.

That aspect of the operation does not preclude it as a false-flag operation. If it was a false-flag operation it would be designed to ascribe some sort of motive to the Iranians, and the consular raid is an obvious choice.

(Whether the consular raid was in fact an act of war on the Iranians is still open to interpretation, which might get the Bush Administration off the hook at home, but it's also open to interpretation by the Iranians. It occurs to me that the Iranians might not be averse to the idea of a war with the United States right now, because I think there is an excellent chance that they could kick the living shit out of us and avenge the suffering they feel they've undergone at the hands of Americans since Operation Ajax in the 1950s. If that's the case, don't look to the Iranians to deny things even if it was a false-flag operation.)

If they can stand up enough to pull off something like this, we should be able to stand down. Plus......what's a worse thing to say about an Iraqi....that he is a shrewd murderer of our boys that were killed, or that he is an inept coward, afraid to fight his own people????? Jim (ahummmeessheskli, sorry) said that even though (they) are trying to say this was such a top notch, well executed attack that it had to be done by the Iranians, that our intelligence community is a bit hesitant to jump to any conclusions after the WMD fiasco. So, we can see that Bush is trying very, very hard to have a reason to use those carriers.

29. LINK
Military investigators looking into possible Iranian links to Karbala attack

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Military investigators are looking into the possibility that the sneak attack on a military compound in Karbala Jan. 20 may have been carried out by Iranians or Iranian-trained operatives, a U.S. official told CNN Tuesday.

An official from another government agency also said that is a leading theory of the investigation into the attack that killed five soldiers.

Both officials stressed that this is a preliminary view, and there is no final conclusion. They agreed this possibility is being looked at because of the sophistication of the attack and the level of coordination.

Another possible indicator, said investigators, is that the attackers spoke English well, which helped them get past several checkpoint areas into the compound. Investigators are particularly looking at how the attackers got U.S.-type military uniforms and SUVs similar to those used by U.S. troops.

The second official said that while there were initial indicators the attack was carried out by members of the Jesh al-Mahdi militias loyal to Muqtada al-Sadr, the attack was more sophisticated than anything carried out by them so far.

54. Here are MY "leading theories"
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 10:20 PM by rocknation
...(T)his is a preliminary view, and there is no final conclusion...

Then you shouldn't be leaking this story AT ALL--unless the mission to generate anti-Iranian sentiment. When those Army PSYOPS interns worked at CNN, are you sure THEY weren't schooling YOU?

...(T)he attackers spoke English well, which helped them get past several checkpoint areas into the compound. Investigators are particularly looking at how the attackers got U.S.-type military uniforms and SUVs similar to those used by U.S. troops.

Then maybe it was one of those special forces black-ops mercenary groups, like those British soldiers who dressed like natives, shot at civilians and policemen, got arrested, and got broken out of jail by their government.

The second official said...the attack was more sophisticated than anything carried out...so far.
Well, that's just plain insulting--especially since we've learned how "unsophisticated" an enemy can be when we didn't win in Viet Nam. Those undersized rice addicts weren't armed with much more than sharpened sticks!

84. Those leading theories are why you are my most trusted name in news
and CNN are warmongering liars who should be trusted no further than the preznit. They lied before, and appear to be lying again.

In addition to your perfectly reasonable theories, I noticed a day or two ago that CNN had discovered a new, improved Osama-Zarqari, Afghanistan-Iraq, who just happened to be from....??? Iran! But there must be conflicting memos out because FOX was running with another new, bad guy from Syria, I think

The one thing certain is that this new "Iran did it" theme does deflect blame from bush and the boys who got us into this disaster. It's like an emotional black mail to ignore all of that and insist that we cooperate on the next installment.

33. This is as credible as the story about the North Vietnamese gun boats attacking
the USS Maddox in the Gulf of Tonkin. The real story was that the Maddox was supporting a CIA-planned South Vietnamese incursion into North Vietnam. The non-incident "incident" was used as a pretext for the war in Vietnam.

Nothing the US government says is true!

Well, well the news breaks with baited breath... US Troops killed, ambushed, last week at Karballah by Iranian Agents.

These are the same agents who whore US Uniforms and had US ID cards, and access to security codes.

Only one thing went though my head.... a lone radio station in Poland on September 1st, 1939.

We know that this President WANTS another war, after all the present one is going so swimmingly.

I beseech you, it is time to be all but trusting of this President. I may add, we don't have the troops and I hate to say it, but this President wants to use Nuclear Weapons. The consequences of these actions will be the dawn of WW III, worst case, or best case, the complete and total isolation of the US in the world as a rogue state.

This is what is at stake.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXXXXX

stickers on them and it wouldn't even raise a reasonable doubt in my mind at this point.

As mentioned above, I call BULLSHIT!

46. Let me get this straight!
We went to war in 2003 believing that Iraq was sophisticated enough to; secretly reconstitute their nuclear program, maintain an illegal cache of WMDs and have the ability to deliver those weapons in 45 minutes.

Now they would have us to believe the Iraqis aren't sophisticated enough to; carry out an attack using stolen uniforms, SUVs, weapons and learning passable English.

I'll repeat the sentiments of many of the above.........I call bullshit!

52. Something like "Polish soldiers" attacking a German radio station in 1939?
Hitler had concentration camp prisoners executed, put them in Polish uniforms and Goebbels told the world that they had attacked a radio station on the German side of the border. And so Germany invaded Poland on Sept. 1, 1939. This is eerily reminiscent. I can see no invasion (even madmen can't produce troops from thin air), but an attack from the carrier fleets sent to the Gulf? Bet the farm on it, by mid-March. I just wonder if Cheney will get his way on use of nukes. Chilling.

65. In his speech to the Reichstag, Hitler said Germany was responding to Polish aggression
From a moral point of view, there is no difference between the Wehrmacht marching into Poland in 1939, the American Army going into Iraq in 2003, or American bombs being dropped on Iran in 2007.

71. That was the "Gleiwitz Incident"
Edited on Wed Jan-31-07 06:24 AM by sofa king
Gleiwitz Incident

Other notable false flag operations, executed or planned:

Mukden Incident

Mainila Incident

Operation Northwoods

Operation Washtub

Operation Gladio and the "strategy of tension"

The CIA appears to have an entire paramilitary office devoted to false flag operations and similar covert military operations, the so-called "Blue Badgers" of the Special Activities Division (SAD).

Edit: despite the above, I consider the possibility that the operation was privately backed by a certain Vice President's company to be far more likely, more likely than the CIA, and even more likely than the Iranians.

87. Thanks, this is very interesting info.
However this one happened (and I think the CIA is least likely of the three, and this so convenient that Cheney could be behind it), I hate to say it, but we are going to attack Iran. And you can then add this incident to your list. Thanks.

So many people are going to die because of Bush, cheney and their corporate den of thieves, even down to the bought owners of fox news.

Look how far the patriots acts went and our civil rights were trampled with iraq. Where do you think they will go with iran? Now we'll be in a real war, a world war.

Bush really is Satan.

I hope everyone here is re-evaluating even their presence on du. I do not believe the Secret services does not already have du's records. They wouldn't skip this place for an alleged anti-war "terrorists group".

Anyway, the peoples deaths that are about to happen is a very big deal, but the freedoms we're about to lose are also a big deal.

This even secures Bush not leaving office.

US may have been behind the "sneak attack" in Karbala.

"...the attackers spoke English well, which helped them get past several checkpoint areas into the compound. Investigators are particularly looking at how the attackers got U.S.-type military uniforms and SUVs similar to those used by U.S. troops."

What possible reason could Iran have for infiltrating a U.S. base and killing 5 soldiers?

Good God, how stupid do they think the 70% people are?

This is just madness, we are all sitting here watching this thing go down and no one is stopping him. It's like the same vibe we got during Iraq. That well it's going to happen and there is nothing we can do about it kind of feel.

Good God, we seriously need to start a massive uprising against this monster before he sets the whole world on fire.

the bad thing is that we can't believe our admin anyway, even if this is true, because practically every word out of their mouth is a lie. And if this is true, Iran knows they can take full advantage and get away with it b/c of our admin's blundering. Sigh. We are so screwed.

There are traitors who want the US to get into another war and are lying to make it happen. These people should be subject to all penalties for treason. Bush has appointed mafia thugs at all levels of the federal government who will do whatever the neocons tell them. They are traitors. Just like the people who told us Saddam was attempting to get uranium from Niger. All corporate warmongering traitors and they should all be HUNG!

Not that a corrupt murderer and his cabal would pull the exact same lying bullshit they pulled 4 years ago about Iraq, it's that somehow it is going to happen EVEN THOUGH CLOSE TO EVERYONE KNOWS ITS A LIE!

That isn't the United States of America. THAT is the Soviet Union.

89. INS (Iranian News Service) reporting: US CIA may have been
behind "sneak attack" in Karbala, so that it could be blamed on Iran.

Attackers wore U.S. military uniformas, spoke English fluently and drove black SUVs, characteristic of some U.S. military and paramilitary forces in Iraq.

It's Vietnam on crack, I tell you!
