Mr Castro, 80, was seen standing during a meeting with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, which was said to have taken place on Monday.

He appeared frail but stronger than three months ago.

-

The pictures show Mr Castro drinking orange juice and joking with Mr Chavez.

"As I have said, this is far from being a lost battle," he says to the Venezuelan leader

2. But, it wasn't a revolution against imperialism. It was against a dictatorship...
and corruption.

What goes around comes around.

4. It concerned a US-backed bloody, filthy, dictator who enforced the policy
of a racist, right-wing, grotesque bunch of a-holes who had been running the country forever according to its own whims, exploiting and abusing the huge class of impoverished people existing on only seasonal work, living in unbelievable hardship.

The people wearied of his death squads, torture for imagined dissident citizens, murders, mutilations, and they threw him, representing the smug, brutal, dirty elitist assholes, OUT OF THERE.

Cuba's President Fidel Castro (L) talks with his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez in Havana January 29, 2007. State television showed Castro for the first time in three months on Tuesday and the ailing Cuban leader said he was still in the fight to recover from surgery that forced him to relinquish power last July. 8. Wow! He surely looks better than he did, doesn't he?
Very much like his old self. Amazing. Not exactly what you'd expect to see after reading the articles coming out of Miami, of course!

Amazing.

I don't speak Spanish so I don't know what is actually being said.
Fidel's face shows signs of severe pain in the opening segment.

imo, he is done.

10. Where are the posters who INSISTED that Mr Castro was dead?
Remember?

The transition to Raul was because Fidel was dead.

then..

Granma had pictures of a recovering Fidel.

then..

The "exiles" & media suggest that first post surgery photos were faked.

then..

Miami media "reported" rumors in Havana that Fidel had died.

then..

US government intel spokescritters predicted that Castro had cancer and was about to die.

then..

More photos of Fidel with Hugo Chavez.

then..

Rumors & reports of Fidel being shipped to Spain for treatment.

then..

Miami announces plans for a huge Orange Bowl death celebration upon Castro's imminent death.

then..

More TV of Castro, in Cuba, looking a bit better, with his good friend Hugo Chavez laughing it up and discussing politics, global warming, etc.

then..

Miami announces plans for a huge death celebration upon Castro's imminent death are canceled and never existed.

Which way will the worms squirm next?

11. I remember when the early claims were being laid. Hilarious.
Do you recall that Miami also had Fidel Castro, or his brother, Raul, in an advanced stage of cancer in the 80's or 90's?

They'd better live it up. It's going to be very uncomfortable for them once the President of Cuba finally does die. They are going to suddenly recognize they've made no plans to "get a life" in Miami all these years.

They'll probably pick up bombing the moderate Cubans all over again, to keep themselves busy.

12. AP: Cuba releases new Castro images
Cuba releases new Castro images
'Here's Fidel, Standing Strong,' newspapers declare

By Anita Snow
The Associated Press

Originally published January 31, 2007, 2:03 PM EST

HAVANA // Cubans lined up today to buy official newspapers featuring photographs of a stronger-looking Fidel Castro, with the communist government eager to show he is recovering after a half-year out of power even though a new collective leadership has taken firm control.

"Here's Fidel, Standing Tall," read the headline of the Communist Youth newspaper Juventud Rebelde, whose front page was dominated by a photograph of Castro and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez taken during a Monday visit.

Inner pages carried more pictures of the previously unpublicized meeting reported by state television Tuesday night with the first video images of the ailing 80-year-old released in three months. The Communist Party daily Granma today also featured prominent coverage of the encounter.

In the new images, repeated by state television today, Castro looked as if he had gained weight and some strength. The last video clip of Castro, aired on Oct. 28, showed him much thinner and frailer.

14. pretty sharp looking for an 80-year-old
His life has been an overwhelming success. No amount of Batista-sympathizer parties in Miami will take that away from his memory when he departs this mortal coil.

16. This thought has crossed my mind ...
Could Castro hand the reins to Chavez? (It doesn't seem like Raul has been taking his role very actively and maybe Fidel thinks Hugo Chavez would make a better successor.) ???

22. If you ask me, I think even Castro wants to die
Every vid I've seen, he looks not like a man who wants to rule for another 80 years, but a man painted into a corner who's only escape is death itself.

I'm no fan of Castro, but I'm no detractor either. He's a dictator - he's done some good things (health care, eliminating crime, etc.) he's done some bad things (summary executions, cuban missle crisis, etc) but I think he wants to quit now, and let history judge....
