Suspicious Devices Found In Four Areas In Boston
Police are investigating four suspicious devices found at four separate locations throughout Boston.

Officials are telling WBZ the devices are similiar to the one found this morning in Sullivan Square attached to a beam supporting I-93 north.

The four locations are the Boston University Bridge, Longfellow Bridge, Tufts New England Medical Center, and the intersection of Stuart and Columbus Streets.

WBZ has learned Boston police removed an item from the Boston University Bridge but they would not elaborate on exactly what the item is. Officers have since cleared that scene.

1. Well, hell.
This is more worrisome than it sounded at first. I hope it's nothing.

4. Maybe
or maybe a response time test, and dry run.

You never know what people that do this kind of shit are thinking.

6. Exactly. Or a distraction.
Bomb squads, FBI, DHS, State Troopers, and Boston PD running to the fake bombs while the real ones are planted.

A good example of this kind of terror war can be found in Larry Bond's "The Enemy Within". The terrorists have all the time in the world to poke, prod, and test our responces. This is why airport security is so paranoid, Lewis Black nonwithstanding. How some devious mind could put together a plan to make a dozen or hundred tiny details work together in a devestating plan is unknown.

It's like building a Rube Goldberg machine of terror.

9. Just what the hell is this?
I came across the tag-end of a CNN story (that makes Turner Broadcasting look VERY bad, by the way), but could not get the gist of it.

11. It's this silly cartoon on the Cartoon Network.
There's this villain character named Ignignokt that looks like one of those aliens from the old Space Invader game, and the devices were little signs with LED lights arranged in the shape of him.

Here's one of the Ignignokt episodes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_mNn4igxZE

10. Confirmed by the 20-somethings in my office
They said that if the cops had shown pictures of the device, they would
have instantly recognized it.

Instead, by playing the security card, they tied up the whole city for
hours.

Another Clusterfuck by Homeland Security run amock.

and an embarrassment to the rest of us.

19. Something like this happened during the M:I:3 release
In Los Angeles. The studio had planted little devices in newspaper vending machines that were suppose to play the Mission: Impossible theme when you opened the door to grap a paper. Well, one of them stopped working, a citizen sees a little black box with wires and buttons and stuff, and calls the cops. Bomb squad rolls out and decides to detonate the suspect bomb in place.

Translation: Blow the entire vending machine up.

They found out later it was a studio promo. Oopsie!

I think the studio pulled the remaining music boxes immediately.

12. Ad for a tv cartoon! Been in place 2-3 wks in NY, LA, Chic, etc.
"The suspicious devices which forced bomb units to scramble across Boston today were actually magnetic lights that are part of a marketing campaign for a television cartoon."

""The "packages" in question are magnetic lights that pose no danger. They are part of an outdoor marketing campaign in 10 cities in support of Adult Swim's animated television show Aqua Teen Hunger Force. They have been in place for two to three weeks in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Austin, San Francisco and Philadelphia. Parent company Turner Broadcasting is in contact with local and federal enforcement on the exact locations of the billboards. We regret that they mistakenly thought to pose any danger.""

13. Long ago, in Texas, wasn't it, when Karl Rove planted bugs in his own office
and claimed the opposition had put them there. He was never fined or charged for this bit of obnoxious, underhanded dishonesty, as far as I know.

Operation Northwoods, signed by all Joint Chiefs of Staff in the 1960's listed a variety of plans to create mayhem, from murdering people in the U.S., or Cubans in boats, or even sabotaging John Glen's space capsule, and blaming it on Cuba to fan the flames of hatred among Americans to the point a direct war on Cuba was automatically acceptable.

This information surfaced in the last few years through a request by James Bamford, through the Freedom of Information Act.

18. Why is it only Boston went into "terror mode" over this?
These things have also appeared here in Chicago, and elsewhere. No freak outs. So now everything that looks like some odd electronic device constitutes a "terror attack"? Now, someone has been arrested in this situation. Gotta cover for the embarrassment, eh Boston?
