Ex-U.S. Attorney General (Ramsey Clark) Ready To Defend Saddam
CAIRO, December 15 (IslamOnline.net) – Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsy Clarke expressed readiness Sunday, December 14, to act as defense lawyer for ousted Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, with western analysts suspecting the captured leader would be given fair trial.

"Certainly, why not. I am ready to act in his defense," Clarke told IslamOnline.net shortly after the U.S. confirmed the detention of Saddam near Tikrit.

Clarke, currently in Cairo to attend a two-day international anti-occupation conference, stressed that Saddam – however brutal – should be give a "fair, objective and impartial trial".

1. Hey I vote for an open trial
with the best defense MONEY CAN BUY... we did it for Goering and this is the only way that justice will be done.

Otherwise it is revenge

2. Reminds me of John Adams.
Took the case of the British soldiers accused of killing American civilians in the Boston Massacre. Nobody wanted to take the case, because everyone hated the British soldiers. Adams bravely took the case, and even won an acquital.

Even so, he was elected 2nd President of the US 20 years later.

9. Ramsey Adams??
I think it's fine that Ramsey Clark wants to defend Saddam. But that doesn't make Clark John Adams any more than it makes Saddam Molly Rush and the Berrigan Brothers.

4. This "trial" is
going to be nothing but a dog and pony show. How can you call an event with a predetermined outcome a trial?

I'm also willing to bet that the questioning in SH's trial will be structured in such a way that he won't have the opportunity embarrass the U.S. by implicating Reagan and Bush 41 in their support for him.

7. Which means the trial is not open
now here is what people have to play with

Many a winger claims that Sadamn was implicated in 9.11

Hey the Pres seems to repeat this lie often enough

That makes Sadamn liable under OUR OWN LAWS, for conspiracy (four counts) for air piracy and Conspiracy to commit murder (every one of the dead at the WTC)

This means we should try him in the US for these crimes, in AN OPEN COURT with Court TV cameras present, or are the chicken hawks too afraid to bring this case to the States since there is no evidence?

5. Too bad...
Bill Kunstler isn't alive. I bet he would have loved to take this case.

He was a great man. I knew him personally.

8. R. Clarke
Saddam Hussein certainly has the right to a lawyer, and if he calls upon Clarke's services I can certainly understand him taking the job. But I have to wonder about someone who seems to seek the job of defending him in Court.

10. Ramsey Clark
He is like the rest of us here - can't stand the Bush Administration.
He spoke at so many anti-war protests - he speaks out as often as
able. I'm sure he would love the opportunity to expose lots of lies
and even though Saddam is no angel, he does deserve fair representation. It would be wonderful if the trial did bring out
all the truth, not just what the Administration wants to come out.
