Robin Williams Entertains Troops in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq - "Goooood morning Bagh-dad!"

With those words — a play on his 1987 movie "Good Morning Vietnam" — Robin Williams took the outdoor stage at Baghdad International Airport on Tuesday and delivered a barrage of raunchy comedy.

Williams was the lead performer in a U.S. military show that also featured actress Shannon Tweed, wrestler Kurt Angle and stock car driver Mike Wallace. The show kicked off a tour of U.S. bases in Iraq (news - web sites) with performances at the main airport in Baghdad.

Perched on a flatbed trailer in a rakishly tilted stocking cap and camouflage jacket, Williams surveyed the crowd of 200 American and Australian soldiers, and told them their garb would be fashionable on the streets of Los Angeles.

"I'm looking at a group of heavily armed people here," Williams joked with the soldiers, most of them wearing helmets and body armor. "I'm telling myself, 'If you're not funny, it's a problem.'"

1. Get your letters into Stripes, folks
so Robin has something to read while he's off-stage.

Help inspire his monologues!

2. Good for him
and all of the other entertainers/support staff and other people making the lives of our troops better. It's wonderful to see the Bob Hope tradition being carried on.

3. Ah this damn liberal (grin)
entertaining the troops, while the other side just snipes from
computers and the safety of their homes.

I do not know if anybody catches the irony here

5. Now, Now
Our troops have had the enjoyment of being entertained by that
right winger Wayne Newton for months now, or so they say. Bet the
troops really get off listening to him sing "Dunk a Shane". Please
excuse the spelling of his best selling song. Betcha he really
lifts their spirits.

7. Good Mooooooooooooooooorning Iraq - Nam !!!

. . Gaaaawd -- would I love to see him do that !!!

. . But guess what, he's probably under the purview of some anal-retentive officer that would do just like in the movie

. . "your outta here"!!

I'm sure his material is "politically correct" - or very close !!

11. I have no doubt
that the Robin Willams show did infinitely more for morale than Chimp and his plastic turkey.
