McCain outdoes Bush on surge
VERO BEACH — Sending more than 20,000 additional troops to Iraq may not be enough, presidential candidate John McCain said Monday.

The U.S. senator from Arizona said the war has been badly managed and he would "like to send more troops" than President Bush is planning to send in an effort to end the violence in Iraq.

McCain spoke to a crowd of nearly 1,000 attending the Riverside Theatre Distinguished Lecture Series held at the Community Church of Vero Beach.

.......

Before the Vero Beach talk Monday, McCain met privately with religious leaders attending the National Religious Broadcasters convention in Orlando. It was part of an effort during this campaign to court social conservatives, in contrast to his 2000 presidential bid, when his relations were strained with religious leaders, some of whom he described as "agents of intolerance."

McCain described the Orlando meeting as successful.

One hot button issue for social conservatives is the Terri Schiavo case. McCain told reporters in Vero Beach that he believes that "government should not intervene in these decisions."

8. McCain is right... we can only gain control of Iraq if we send hundreds of thousands more soldiers
there.

But that won't solve the problem. We'll have to occupy them forever.

What all of these short-sighted politicians don't see is that we never should have gone in the first place, we made a horrible mistake, and we have to live with the consequences. There is no solution that involves more troops. Only less.
