More Iran-made weapons found in Iraq: US

More Iran-made weapons found in Iraq: US
(Reuters)

BAGHDAD - The US military showed on Monday what it said was further evidence of Iranian-made weapons being used by Iraqi militants, including explosives linked to sophisticated roadside bombs.

The weapons, which included mortar bombs and 122 mm rockets, were found during a raid by US forces and Iraqi police on Saturday near the volatile city of Baquba, north of Baghdad.

...

‘I don’t think there is any way for us to know if it is tied to any government,’ Major Jeremy Siegrist said of the cache.

Siegrist declined to link the cache to any particular militant group in Iraq, but said it was found near a village where gunmen of the Mehdi Army militia of anti-American Shia cleric Moqtada Al Sadr are strong.

‘We know there are JAM members in the village,’ he said, using a military acronym for the group.

1. I hear they've also found U.S.made weapons in Iraq
And that they are being used by Iraqis in their insurgency.

I need to leave the country, because it appears that it will now be necessary for us to invade ourselves.

4. Do you mean the anti-aircraft missiles?
I bet all the "made in Iran" stickers on the bomb parts were printed in English and were clean, compared to the rest of the fragments ... and surprisingly intact ...

7. I was going to say something similar. :-)
Only thing different was I was going to point out I had things made in Mexico, which we share a border with, like Iran and Iraq. And then go to the China thing. Yours was funnier. Kudos!

May-tag, which had a big factory here in SI for around forty years, just completed their moved to Mexico. (A lot of people lost their jobs here.) Better watch out for those washers and dryers, and the people who sell/buy them.

8. The question that is never asked is...
how many American made weapons are found on captured Iraqi's?

Since the U.S. is the largest arms dealer in the world, I would find it extraordinary if Iraqi's didn't have any of ours as well.

Did we sell them to the Iraqi's? nope. To Saddam? yes. So by the state dept's logic that is currently on display, we are as guilty in arming them as the Iranians. So when does moron* start leveling washington?

I'm so tired of living in an alternative reality.

10. "mortar bombs and 122 mm rockets"
Are not IEDs. They are fairly standard weapons in the arsenal of a militia in a country that is in a civil war. The Mehdi Army and other Shiite militias have not been major players in the insurgency, although our efforts to paint them as the bad guys as we shift our support to the sunni factions will no doubt force them to start fighting us.

Of course Iran is supplying shiite militias with weapons: they are defending the shiite community in Iraq. We aren't. Somebody has to.

12. U.S. Says Raid in Iraq Supports Claim on Iran (NYT)
... “Every P.I.R. in Iraq has been RadioShack, Digigard or Everspring,” Major Weber said ...

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/26/world/middleeast/26weapons.html?_r=1&hp=&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin

“Iranian” IEDs—made in Texas?

... Everspring Industry Co. Ltd is a Taiwanese company. Digigard is made by Paradox Security Systems of Montreal, Canada. And RadioShack’s headquarters is in Fort Worth, Texas. Looks like another slam dunk.

Maybe made in the USA or made in Russia. And why would a country put thier name on a bomb. This is cheap propaganda.

14. The ME is flooded with arms from all over the world
Individual weapons stamped "Proudly Made in Iran" don't impress me. The Israelis probably have some as well, if they're that good.

Weapons manufacturers don't give a shit about who they sell to, where their products are used or the consequences of their use (google "Poison Gas", "Saddam Hussein").
