So what else is new? Not like its anything than what goes on in the White House these days.

NY Times
Dec. 17. 2003

CHICAGO, Dec. 17 — Former Gov. George Ryan(R) was charged today in a sweeping federal indictment accusing him of doling out favors and public contracts in exchange for kickbacks while serving as Illinois secretary of state and governor.

The 22-count indictment includes charges of racketeering, mail and tax fraud, and giving false statements, according to a written statement issued by the office of Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the United States attorney in Chicago.

The charges emerged from a five-year investigation into bribery in the office of Illinois's secretary of state. Mr. Ryan, a Republican, served as secretary of state from 1991 to 1999, and governor from 1999 to January 2003.

The indictment alleges that Mr. Ryan received cash payments and gifts, vacations and personal services and that members of his family received similar kickbacks totaling about $167,000, Mr. Fitzgerald said in the statement.

1. George shouldn't have called for the moratorium
Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 08:47 PM by kcwayne
Financial crimes and graft aren't anything to take accountability for it you are a Republican, but George crossed the line when he implemented the moratorium on capital punishment given Illinois' horrific record of convicting innocent men (mostly black) of capital crimes. Taking justice seriously is a sure fire way to lose the support of the party of pukes.

2. Typical Republican thief.
Let them get into office and they start lining their pockets with bribes.
