A military jury sentenced an Air Force captain to 50 years in prison for raping four men and attempting to rape two others.

The sentence was delivered Wednesday, a day after nine Air Force officers serving on Capt. Devery L. Taylor's court-martial jury found him guilty of all charges against him for drugging and kidnapping servicemen and others he met in bars. Taylor was dismissed from the Air Force and will not be eligible for parole for 20 years.

Taylor was convicted of two counts of attempted sodomy, four counts of forcible sodomy, two counts of kidnapping and one count of unlawful entry.

the "boys will be boys" defense is used quite a bit to minimalize any sentences if women are raped.
I think the homophobic response would lead towards higher sentences for men raping men.

haven't seen the stats, either, but that's my gut reaction.

4. While this is truly an ugly case, the story from a week ago

where one of the participants in that nastiness of a group of men raping a fourteen year old girl and murdering her and her family got only ten years leaps into focus.

A man in Arizona, a schoolteacher, was found guilty of twenty counts of having downloaded kiddie porn on his computer and was sentenced to two hundred years, no parole-even time off for dying.

What ugly, ugly people we are surrounded with. It is little wonder that some megalomaniacs from the middle east find us so reprehensible as to deserve eradication.

We do not live in a nation of laws: perhaps a nation of opinions, disgrace and take advantage of others.

While I very much share your concern that he is eligible for parole in 10 years, let's not mistate the facts. He was sentenced to 100 years.

He should NOT be parole-eligible at all imo. Remember, though that Charlie Manson is also parole-eligible, but is highly unlikely to ever get paroled--having been turned down countless times to date.

7. Sgt Cortez isn't Charlie Manson

But Sgt Cortez isn't Charlie Manson! In 10 years most of what he did will be forgotten and he could very well make parole on his first try, unless someone speaks up against it when the time comes.

It seems that every time that Manson or one of his followers comes up for parole, the media brings up the story of what happened, and parole is denied. But will the media do the same for Sgt. Cortez? We won't know for at least 10 years!
