Chavez & Bush Latin American tours coincide
Chavez & Bush Latin American tours coincide
Thu, 01 Mar 2007 09:49:23

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez denied plans to wreck U.S. President George W. Bush's upcoming Latin American tour by visiting Bolivia and Argentina roughly at the same time.

Chavez cited security reasons for not disclosing his plan to visit the two Latin America countries reiterating accusations that the U.S. was planning to assassinate him, AFP reported.

The Venezuelan president, one of Washington's fiercest critics, who regularly blames the U.S. capitalism for poverty and inequality in Latin America, underlined that the visit was planned early in the year.

He further accused the CIA of spreading lies that he planned to "sabotage" the U.S. president's Latin American tour.

Chavez, speaking in his daily radio show, "Hello President," said "it is a coincidence that Mr. Bush arrives in Brasilia and almost at the same time I arrive in Buenos Aires; that Mr. Bush arrives in Montevideo and almost at the same time I am still in Buenos Aires; that Mr. Bush arrives in Colombia and I arrive in Bolivia."

3. I don't doubt that
our country is attempting to kill him. Especially after all the nationalizations. Didn't he get the memo? It's one free market under God! If I were him, I would be worried the US is putting Columbian militias up to the job..

6. He doesn't seem capable of accepting a world in which people don't fall down and grovel
at his feet.

He hates any world leader who won't put Bush and the good Bush can do him personally ahead of the well being of his people.

7. Whereas Bush has had his cabinet members threaten Bolivians over electing Evo Morales,
actual citizens are moved to try to help them, in their own, much smaller ways, instead. There's so much missing in George W. Bush:
From Bristol to Bolivia to ‘give something back’

FORMER Cathedral School headboy Jake Coates visited Bolivia on a climbing holiday last year and what he found there left such an impression, he'll be going back this summer.

Jake, who is now studying medicine at Bristol University, will be returning to Bolivia with nine friends to climb five peaks in five days, and raise £10,000 for five local villages in the process.

"We came across this group of villages in the south-west altiplano region, where the people were barely scratching an existence," said Jake.

"The food they ate was meagre and yet their warmth and generosity towards us as foreigners was truly humbling. We wanted to give something back.

"Having been to the area and seen the poverty first-hand, I couldn't get on board with this project fast enough," he added.

9. Venezuela to build USD 1.2 billion aeronautic compound
Caracas, Wednesday February 28 , 2007

Venezuela to build USD 1.2 billion aeronautic compound

Johnny Yánez Rangel, Governor of central western Cojedes state, submitted to the Higher Board of the National Armed Force (FAN) the final project for construction of an aeronautic compound in the surroundings of Airport Ezequiel Zamora, in Cojedes capital town of San Carlos, including a maintenance and repair center for Russian-made helicopters, an aeronautic training center for civilian and military pilots, both Venezuelan and foreign.

According to Yánez Rangel, works should start within the next month. Initial investment is estimated at USD 1.2 billion, and the project will be funded by the national and regional governments, together with private investors.

The aeronautic school and the Russian helicopter maintenance center will have a cost of USD 132 million and USD 528 million, respectively. They will be built along a 13,000 meter-long landing strip where any cargo airplane in the world can land. The compound will also comprise a flying club, a subordinate customs, two fuel supply stations, and repair workshop for PT6 engines.

"We will be the only ones in Latin America to provide hot service to these engines, which are used in most aircrafts in Latin America, and we are going to have the largest chopper maintenance center in the region," Yánez stressed.

10. I got my copy of "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" from Axis of Logic last night,
and watched it for the first time. It's about the failed US-backed fascist coup against Chavez. Great flick! It has you on the edge of your seat the whole way, and the Irish film crew was right there, on the spot, as the coup attempt occurred, and Chavez was kidnapped, and the fake government announced the suspension of the National Assembly and the Supreme Court, and the firing of every lawful officer, and then as his cabinet members and VP--who had been in hiding--regained control of the government palace with the help of the presidential guard, while one million Venezuelans poured into the streets and surrounded the palace to demand the return of CONSTITUTIONAL government and their DEMOCRATICALLY elected president.

This is what was on everyone's lips: The Constitution! It was SO IMPORTANT that people understood it, had read it, and had voted on it.

The South American revolution is not so much about one man--Chavez--and his views and his fate--as it is about the RULE OF LAW. And that leads me to believe that the revolution will surely outlive Chavez, if the Bushites succeed in assassinating him. This is something that so many people miss--probably because of how our war profiteering corporate news monopolies dwell on personalities, and create the illusion that everything depends on "strongmen." It is an insult to the people of Venezuela--and the people of Latin America, who have fought hard for Constitutional government, transparent elections and democracy for more than a decade. Chavez would not, and could not, be in power except for them: the People!

Bush, who represents the Corporate Reich, and fascist murderers and thieves, is visiting South America to find some way to kill democracy there. But he will not succeed. Democracy in South America right now is like a force of nature--a tidal wave, a hurricane, a vast wildfire. Yes, it has been based on the hard work of many activists, but it is now so big, and such a passion, that it cannot be stopped. But Chavez is right to give the people something to cheer about in Bush's wake. Bush will be whisked about in secret, in armored cars with black windows and police everywhere, while Chavez speaks to cheering millions out in the open. His charming smile and good intentions will lighten hearts, while that mean little warmonger tries to "divide and conquer" with corporate rule and bullying threats as his only currency. And Chavez will not let him hide, doing his secret dirty deals. He will hound him, and expose him, for Venezuelans, for South Americans and for us. Wouldn't you love to have a president like this--who actually advocates for the poor and the disregarded against the likes of Bush? I am envious and admiring, and keep thinking of that movie--how a million people poured into the streets and stopped murder and repression. It might not be possible here, because we are such a huge, diverse country. The circumstances are quite different, and we probably need to restore democracy in quite different ways. But it was inspiring to see those fired up people in the streets, braving police and tanks, and rogue military and fascist snipers, and restoring democracy by their sheer numbers. And I do hope Bush gets a taste of democracy while he is there, and that Lulu and the few others he dares to visit fleece him good and properly on behalf of their country and region. For he is a desperate man.

16. so who's going to volunteer to steal his passport, so he can't get back in?
He'll be at the border checkpoint, fussing and fuming, and the US Customs people will be saying, "Sir, whoever you are, you can't use a copy of Newsweek as photo identification".
