USAToday - "Saddam ammo caches deadly"
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2007-02-28-saddam-era-ammo_x.htm

<snip> WASHINGTON — Four years after the Iraq war began, the country remains awash in Saddam-era munitions that provide key ingredients for homemade bombs used against U.S. troops, according to administration documents and military officials.

The problem of unsecured munitions was obvious soon after the fall of Saddam Hussein in spring 2003, Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I. said.

Reed, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and former Army officer, said there weren't enough U.S. troops in Iraq to destroy the weapons. The munitions include bullets, artillery shells and missiles.

"It should have been taken care of immediately," Reed said.

DUH!

1. But they aren't WMD and posed no threat to the U.S.
Edited on Thu Mar-01-07 09:41 AM by BOSSHOG
The police department of the small town down the road has a deadly cache of ammo.

Please would an army of brave conservatives take the "WMD" that Iraq had in March 2003 and attack the United States.

3. Well, that was lucky
Those munitions, which didn't pose any danger or threat to us are now blowing our people to Kingdom Come because some idiot stationed our troops right next to the bang-bangs. Good thing the Bushistas are so good at stampeding people into being wet-your-pants scared of things that couldn't hurt us.

5. But there was plenty of troops to secure the oil fields
Couldn't secure the Ammo dumps or the facilities containing radioactive materials but somehow the oil fields were secured and kept operational...How many dead US soldiers because Bush* and Rummy didn't do the most important job? Security...

6. Yeah, but oil wells are more important to * than mere soldiers...
Edited on Thu Mar-01-07 12:50 PM by lectrobyte
Remember that March 2003 speech before our invasion, specifically warning the Iraqis not to destroy oil wells?

Edit: did I say "war"? I meant our invasion.

7. Why would people greeting us as liberators want to scarf up tons and tons of ammo?
Edited on Thu Mar-01-07 01:08 PM by Roland99
I don't understand. I mean, they met us with kisses and flowers. There's a square named in honor of Bush, too.

*THWAP*

Whew, oh ok. I feel better now. I morphed into some sort of Bizarro World there for a minute.

8. The problemof unsecured munitions was apparent BEFORE the fall of Saddam
In fact, I think it became apparent shortly after the first Chinese chemist blew his eyebrows off back in the 9th century AD!

9. Remember the 350 tons of super-HE that we left unguarded in 2003? Gone.
Nearly 3/4 million pounds of high-explosives disappeared in 2003 because Bu$h/Cheney/Rummy decided to wage war on-the-cheap.

BOOM! How many killing and maiming IEDs will that make?

12. What I remember that story hitting the presses right before the '04 election
I also remember how the ditto heads still supported the dumbass in chief.

These were explosives that had been sealed and monitored by international nuclear inspectors before the invasion. It was bush's war, and his stupidity, that put them back in the hands of those who could do harm with them.

Weapons and ammunition cache's of a country's military contain dangerous, even deadly, items!

Ooh, that Rogue, Saddam: making deadly armaments available to his military!
