Christian school loses lawsuit over religious discrimination
Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO - Alameda County did not commit religious discrimination when officials rejected a Christian school's plan to build a campus on county land near Castro Valley, a federal jury ruled.

Friday's ruling in San Francisco federal court denied Redwood Christian Schools' claim that the county infringed on the school's religious freedom by denying a permit to build classrooms for 650 students.

County lawyers argued that the denial was not based on religion but the need to preserve the land near Interstate 580 for agriculture and open space.

The school had sought $30 million in damages under a federal law restricting land-use regulations that could limit religious expression.

2. Break my heart
A training "ground" for future haters will have to be built elsewhere. What a shame.

no. How is that discrimination? Is it incumbent on the county government to sell county land any time a private entity, religious or otherwise, wants to use county land?

Sounds a lot like reverse eminent domain.

On edit: I was replying to post #3...

10. Another "moderate believer",
That's what you are. Read Sam Harris's "The End of Faith" and you may get a sense of why the comment about "haters" was made. Most individual believers are unaware of the history of organized religion. Read it and it may change your attitude...about what you believe, that is.

3. Not sure it will hold up
There are some interesting provisions restriciting the ability of local boards through zoning of touching anything religous unless its for a compelling need, and this does not sound like one.

IANAL, but this is not over
