WASHINGTON (AP) - Mitt Romney won the most support for the Republican presidential nomination in a straw poll of GOP activists attending an annual conference.

Despite his record of inconsistency on some social issues, the former Massachusetts governor got 21 percent of the 1,705 votes cast by paid registrants to the three-day Conservative Political Action Conference. They were asked who their first choice would be for the Republican nomination.

Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor whose moderate stances on social issues irks the party's right wing, was second with 17 percent.

Both were among the more than half-dozen White House hopefuls who spoke at the conference.

2. That they support Guiliani and Romney shows they have no morals...
For people who claim the moral high ground, they sure can throw away their values quickly in hopes of keeping the White House. But, as we always knew, "conservatism" is just a cover for rapacious greed and selfishness.

7. A Lot of People Said the Same Thing About Bush**
The trouble with the "I hope they pick a real loser" approach is that anyone the Repiglicans pick has a pretty good chance of winning
due to the enormous advantages the Repiglican party enjoys, including unlimited free access to the media,
the unshakable loyalty of the "29%ers" (mostly fundies) who think the Iraq war is the next Crusade,
the support of the hierarchy of the Catholic church,
their ability to run false-flag "terrorist" attacks at will,
and did I mention the media?

Without all those, George W. Bush would never have been (s)elected (p)Resident.

8. I'm just glad none of their candidates are conservatives. They all just recently started pretending

to be so that they'd have a chance to run for President. All top three of their candidates have strong backgrounds of pushing very liberal social issues.

A conservative might be able to rally the base. None of these jokers should be able to.

Every one of them are greedy, anti-average American, SOB con-artists for the ultra-wealthy who they are each trying to earn their golden parachutes from.
