AP: Senator says he called prosecutor...(fired US Attorney)

WASHINGTON - Lawmakers have new questions about the Bush administration's ouster of at least eight U.S. attorneys after New Mexico Sen. Pete Domenici (news, bio, voting record) revealed Sunday that he contacted his state's prosecutor to ask about an ongoing investigation several months after calling for his replacement.

Former New Mexico U.S. Attorney David Iglesias claimed last week that he was fired in December after resisting pressure from two members of Congress to rush indictments in an investigation of an alleged Democratic kickback scheme before the 2006 election.

Domenici, a Republican, had said earlier in the week that he didn't know what Iglesias was talking about. But Sunday, he acknowledged that he called Iglesias to ask about a criminal investigation, though Domenici insisted he never pressured nor threatened Iglesias.

Another illegal move by another corrupt republicon crony. Your corrupt butt is in the sling now, PETEY, and I hope you twist slowly in the wind, because you deserve it, your corrupt republicon corporate stooge hack.

6. That's my view exactly. Ethics bars "just calling" for good reason
Of course even with Democrats in power one must wonder if 'ethics' will be enforced at all.

8. He also received a call from Rep. Heather Wilson
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 09:14 AM by catgirl
who just won re-election in part due to the (democratic) scandal
that inspired these calls. An interesting note-if an ethics violation
is committed by a Senator, he or she may be either reprimanded or
REMOVED FROM OFFICE!

9. I think removal is pretty unlikely. Really, really unlikely.
But there's still publicly shaming the guy. And there may yet be more than we know.

10. I don't know, if there's serious evidence...

that he put pressure on the prosecutor to hurry
it along with a certain verdict in mind....This all
for political purposes, the election, and followed
by a revenge firing....

12. Right now the only unimpeachable evidence is Dominici's own admission
and I suppose that's because there'd be phone records Congress could get if push comes to shove. The content of the (already highly inappropriate) phone call is disputed so far..

But we'll see. This isn't over.

11. GOP memories seem to improve ONLY when there is real evidence they are lying.
Somebody else heard or has a tape?
