White House promises 'exhaustive look' at Walter Reed
White House promises 'exhaustive look' at Walter Reed
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The White House promised an "exhaustive look" at conditions at the Army's premier hospital Monday after the service's top civilian official resigned last week.

"The president and also everybody within the chain of command are taking responsibility," White House spokesman Tony Snow said. "It's time to shine a bright light on the entire system and find out where the failings may be and address them."

Wounded veterans of the war in Iraq appeared before a House subcommittee Monday to tell stories of being housed at a moldy, shopworn outpatient facility at Washington's Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and detail how they struggled to obtain follow-up care after their initial treatment. Washington Post reporting led to an outcry that brought the Thursday sacking of the facility's commander, Maj. Gen. George Weightman, and Friday's resignation of Army Secretary Francis Harvey.

what a bunch of bs....they know nothing about taking responsibility for anything. :puke: I'm exhausted just listening to all the finger pointing and spin.

Our troops deserve better than this and BushCo.

4. Which means there will be no exhaustive look at Walter Reed
at least not a look originated by the white house or republicans in congress, except those who use the situation for self promotion.

bush promised us that Iraq had wmd. And what happened about alternative sources of fuel? And what about that oath to serve honorably in the military? And what about not being interested in nation building? And how bout maintaining an honorable administration? Worst President Ever. Miserable failure.

5. So, this just means
they will spend billions of dollars and several months "investigating", and then do absolutely nothing to improve the hospitals.

7. the "official" whitewash will pre-empt any independent investigations
at least that's the way it worked before Dems were in charge.

Will it work this time?

9. how about looking at the man who is responsible for creating this newest round of critically wounded
soldiers, one george walker bush, and his illegal, unjust and immoral war of CHOICE. NEVER let him, or anyone else, forget this tiny little fact.

13. More false indignation and posturing, waiting for the bad publicity
to fade. They'll slap a coat of cheap paint on the problem and go back to their criminal activities. To them, soldiers are fodder and when they come back wounded, they're problematic fodder.

14. Who the fuck taught people that saying "I take responsibility"
is good enough? Like it is some sort of cure all and explanation. Like it changes anything.

As if saying you are responsible in any way means anything without accountability...well, gee, I said it was my responsibility, isn't that good enough?

FUCK NO it's not.

People are dying. People are being neglected to death.

16. NPR came *this* close...*THIS* close this a.m. to saying what we all knew anyway...
That the Repub Congress was covering for BushCo since the election of 2000. The Bushistas have enjoyed steady protection for their wrongdoings from the Repubs in Congress evidenced by the Abu Ghraib scandal. NPR compared the two and contrasted the "do nothing" approach by Bush when the Abu Ghraib photos and stories hit the Internet(s) with the Walter Reed story and his "willingness" to appear to be doing something. With Abu Ghraib, Bush didn't do a damn thing about holding anyone accountable except let a few lower-rank military officials bite the bullet. But basically the higher echelon remained untouched. Then (I'm surprised NPR said this) NPR observed with the Dem win last November that Bush can't afford to do nothing about Walter Reed like he did Abu Ghraib. So that's why we have the current firings of top administration officials: the Dems control Congress now.

So we do have some accountability now, only it's not because Bush is upset about the treatment of US troops at Walter Reed. He's upset that the Repubs in Congress won't be able to protect him anymore.

I would have liked to have heard NPR say this. I mean, in an age when the Associated Press can call Al Gore a "hypocrite" in its headlines, I think something like "Bush cowers at thought that Congress won't be able to protect him anymore" from NPR wouldn't be too far out of line.

I would like to have heard NPR say something to the effect that the Party Who Proclaims to "Support the Troops"...really doesn't, but I suppose that would be asking too much.

17. What this really means is
bush and the republicans will be taking an "exhaustive look" and "taking responsibility" until they can find someone else to plant the responsbility/blame on. If anyone watched The Daily Show last night they saw Jon Stewart taking on this same issue of bush and the bushettes not taking responsibility for anything they did and/or said they would be responsible for. :grr:
