WASHINGTON, March 6 (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney expressed deep disappointment over the conviction on Tuesday of his former aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby for lying and obstructing the investigation into a CIA leak investigation.

Libby, Cheney's former chief of staff, faces a maximum of 25 years in prison. "I am very disappointed with the verdict," Cheney said in a statement. "Scooter served our nation tirelessly and with great distinction through many years of public service."

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Vice President Dick Cheney has issued a statement on the guilty verdict of his former chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

"I am very disappointed with the verdict. I am saddened for Scooter and his family. As I have said before, Scooter has served our nation tirelessly and with great distinction through many years of public service.

"Since his legal team has announced that he is seeking a new trial and, if necessary, pursuing an appeal, I plan to have no further comment on the merits of this matter until these proceedings are concluded."

When you heard that Libby and Cheney were not going to take the stand, knowing that it was their best, and only, real defense, knowing Libby's lawyer had already promised that they would, you knew the fix was in. The appeals will drag on for about 18 months and Libby's off the hook, free to pursue a lucrative career in the retired neocons country club. Bush and Cheney are not the type to just leave one of their most trusted aides just twist slowly in the wind.

that it is a very good probability that good ol Libby will get pardoned by dumb and dumber.
