Students prevent U.S. forces from raiding a university in Baghdad

Baghdad, March 8, (VOI) - Iraqi students rallied and prevented, on Thursday, a U.S. force from entering the campus of the second largest university in Baghdad, an eyewitness student said.

"U.S. forces tried this morning to raid the campus of al-Mustansiriyah university, east of Baghdad, but students gathered in rallies to protest the move," a student, who was present there, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

He added "the rallies led the force to withdraw from the location."
"The students were upset at repeated violations against the university campus," he said, and added "it no longer remains a campus after it was attacked with bombs and raided by U.S. forces."

7. Yes Kent state was NOTHING compared to that Oct 2, 1968
some estimates place the number of deaths in the thousands, but most sources report between 200 and 300 deaths

The Night of Tlatelolco (from a book title by the Mexican writer Elena Poniatowska), took place on the afternoon and night of October 2, 1968, in the Plaza de las Tres Culturas in the Tlatelolco section of Mexico City.

I was in Saigon when that little "event" occurred

9. If they did another 'Kent State' we wouldn't hear about it

in the MSM.

It would only be discussed over 'the internets'.

6. A good example of Iraqi civil rights struggle.
I hope more and more Iraqis organize to oppose the occupation in such a manner. They will gain the sympathy of the whole world.

10. Why would they send soldiers in to raid a college campus? It makes no sense.
I'm glad the students stopped them. The latest in a long list of signs that we should get the Hell out of Iraq.
