Bush creeps up from all-time low in poll(at 35%, still lowest in 56 yrs for 2nd term Pres)
By Terence Hunt, AP White House Correspondent | March 9, 2007

WASHINGTON --President Bush, in a bitter showdown with Congress over Iraq, has crept up a speck from an all-time low in his job approval rating. But his standing is the weakest of any second-term president at this point in 56 years.

The numbers in the latest AP-Ipsos poll gave the White House little reason for cheer as Bush opened a weeklong visit to Latin America to bolster U.S. influence in the face of rising anti-American sentiment.

Weighed down by the unpopular war in Iraq, which is about to begin its fifth year, and opposition to his decision to send more troops into combat, Bush had an approval rating of 35 percent in early March. Still, that was up from 32 percent in February when his rating was tied for an all time low in AP-Ipsos polling.

It now stands where it was in mid-January and in a range of where it was for most of 2006.

Seizing on voters' frustration with the war, House Democrats challenged Bush with legislation Thursday requiring the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraq by October of next year. It would mark the first time the new Democratic-controlled Congress has established a date certain for the end of U.S. combat.

3. Eh. AP-Ipsos includes a "mixed feelings" option and no "unsure". . .
so who can say what they're actually gauging. The two previous AP-Ipsos polls this year pegged him at 32, so 35 seems to fit within a reasonable MOE.

Enjoy it while you can, George. There'll be another coming out soon, but those will reflect Libby's convictions, the Walter Reed debacle, the shaky stock market, the failing surge, the. . .

Well. Enjoy while you can, George.

4. With all the recent events unfolding....
it's hard to fathom that Bush's numbers could have increased. There's been nothing but bad news for the Bushistas and his poll numbers go up? :wtf:

If these numbers repeat themselves in the next few polls then I might believe them, but right now? No freaking way.

9. Check out this group of poll numbers and it appears that this gain
is just a blip on the radar.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/polls/archive/?poll_id=19

Even Rasmussen had him at 37% as of March 8 and they usually rank him 5 - 8 points ahead of any other polls:

March 8, 2007

Thirty-seven percent (37%) of Americans approve of the way that George W. Bush is performing his role as President. That’s the lowest level of overall approval for the President in two months and just two points above the lowest level ever recorded. Just 16% Strongly Approve of the President’s performance, matching the lowest level ever measured by Rasmussen Reports.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Bush_Job_Approval.htm

He may go up or down a few points over the next two years, but I believe that the only positive numbers he is getting now come from his hardcore base who will stand by him no matter what. To do otherwise now would be an admission that they were wrong to support him in the first place and there is no way they will admit to that.

6. 3% is statistically insignificant.

I myself don't see Bush's ratings going significantly up or down for the rest of his presidency. They will continue to fluctuate between 30-35% as they have been doing for a long time now, because those 30-35% are absolute brain-dead, kool-aid drinking, bible thumping, chickenhawk, gullible, dumb-ass, bloodthirsty blithering morons. The rest of the American public, even those that were stupid enough to support him for as long as they did, won't be going back. They have finally seen what a colossal fuck up he really is. The only ones left are the true fanatics. If this was Germany in the final days of WW2, they'd be the ones mounting a futile defense of their country for their beloved fuhrer, the ones that still deluded themselves into believing that Germany would somehow win the war even as the shells rained down upon them and their cities became encircled.

Bush is done. Over. Finished. I only hope they can find a way to force him to stop the killing so more people don't die for his sorry, pathetic ass.

8. Hmmmmm....makes ya kinda wonder what should be done
with those 35% when this nightmare finally starts to wrap-up.

I still think splitting the country would work. I was thinking of a 50/50 split but now I see some folks have come to their senses (they're just stupid not evil) and am more inclined to support at 65/35 split.

7. Where are they polling? Republican House offices?
Considering the Walter Reed scandal, I don't believe any poll that says the King has increased in popularity.

19. But it can't be true, Broder says Chimperella is making a big comeback!
But then old fart Border and his fellow asskissers at theWHORESHINGTON POST, er, Pravda on the Potomac, always say whatever Rove tells them to say.

I bet Broder doesn't even go to the bathroom without asking for Karl's permission.
