A Web-based “truth” squad is poised to chase Mitt Romney in an effort to trip him up on the presidential campaign trail - and its members are Republicans from his very own Bay State.

Founded by GOP consultants Holly Robichaud and Ron Vining, the Mass Republicans for Truth plans to launch a nationwide attack on the former governor’s record - including radio and TV ads.

“He’s running for the highest office in the nation and voters need to know the entire record,” said Robichaud. “We can’t elect an unknown quantity to president of the United States.”

The website, www.MassRepublicansforTruth.com which is still under construction, promises “The Romney Report” will assess Romney’s performance as governor in several key areas. “Perhaps the answers to these important questions are a secret in some parts of the country, but they certainly are NOT to the Republicans in his ‘home’ State of Massachusetts,” the site says.

Those who know him best

It has the potential to create some significant damage for Myth Romney.

"It" is the decision by members of what's left of the Massachusetts Republican Party to take to the campaign trail as a "truth squad". The truth about the former Massachusetts governor will not set him free. Says consultant Holly Robichaud:

“It’s a matter of trust. When somebody changes their position on so many different issues - taxes, minimum wage, abortion, gay marriage, gay rights - you’ve got to start to wonder, where are his core beliefs? If you don’t have any core beliefs, you shouldn’t be president of the United States.”

To think I once questioned her credentials? :-)

The truth squad comes on top of the decisions by other Republicans to sign on with the Guiliani and McCain campaigns, including former governors Paul Cellucci and Jane Swift (Bill Weld and his natural affinity to not finish the job means he's a lock for Myth).

File this under "they were for him before they were against him." I can't wait to check them out.

But seriously, folks (barrump-bump), this is actually refreshing news. There is SO ungodly much shit out there having to do with Democrats eating their own, how we're our own worst enemies, how we stay divided and nitpicky and tear all our people to shreds. It is a GREAT comfort and encouraging sign to see this - that the republi-CONS are busily at it, too, tearing their own to shreds just as resolutely. This should certainly be encouraged, if in no other way, just not interfering, or agreeing and expressing "innocent" curiosity about hearing more. Remember, if these folks are on overdrive working to tear "myth" romney (I LOVE that!) apart, it means there's that much energy that will NOT be directed our way. They'll be too busy ripping him to pieces and disabling his campaign to bother with our people for awhile. Which is only good for us. And I'm REALLY gratified to see this against romney, because when things start shaking down, it's possible that he'd stand a good chance of being the compromise candidate for wrong-wingers who for one reason or other can't see themselves getting behind either giuliani or mccain.

Let 'em knock themselves out! The more they disable him as a candidate, the less heavy lifting WE will have to do. Let them do the dirty work for us. WAY cool! :toast:
