The Nevada State Democratic Party is pulling out of a controversial presidential debate scheduled for Aug. 14 in Reno and co-hosted by Fox News, according to Democratic insiders.

The debate was being hosted by Fox News Channel and Fox News Radio, the Nevada State Democratic Party and the Western Majority Project.

A Fox spokeswoman didn’t immediately return a call for comment.

Victory! Fox News Nevada debate is cancelled.
Date:
March 9, 2007 3:32:45 PM PST

Dear activists, colleagues and friends,
We have a terrific victory to enjoy today. The Fox News sponsored Democratic presidential debate in Nevada has been cancelled. Activists all over the country came together -- from the netroots to grassroots to MoveOn to bloggers to the film we at Brave New Films created -- in a stunning and powerful rejection of the myth that Fox is a news station.

Enjoy this important step in making very clear we will not accept propaganda as news any more.

54. here's the thing about fux
Edited on Mon Mar-12-07 10:48 PM by SemperEadem
Fux has no intention of letting the Dems' message reach their viewers--that's the point. The Dems could be on there holding cue cards of what they're going to say and showing it to the cameras and the fux filter of "anything Democrat is anathama to us" would still twist it and it would come out the exact opposite of what was said. It's what the efforts of MoveOn, BNF, DU and others have made that caused the Nevada Democrats to cancel fux on this.

Fux isn't owed a gotdamn thing by the Democrats. As far as I'm concerned, no Dems should even bother wasting their valuable time granting interviews with fux until they change their ownership, their management and their editorial staff.

Democrats cancel Fox News debate

By Dan Whitcomb Fri Mar 9, 11:33 PM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Nevada Democratic Party officials said on Friday they were canceling a presidential debate co-sponsored by Fox News, following a joke chairman Roger Ailes made about Democratic candidate Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record).

In a letter sent to Fox, Nevada State Democratic Party Chairman Tom Collins and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record) said Ailes "went too far" with comments made the night before.

The letter makes no reference to a crusade by the liberal activist group MoveOn.org to boycott Fox, which it calls a "right-wing mouthpiece." Democratic presidential candidate
John Edwards dropped out of the debate on Thursday, citing in part Fox's participation.

The letter also does not specify which comments by Ailes lead to the decision, but a Democratic source told Reuters it was a joke Ailes made about Obama and
President Bush during a speech on Thursday night.

"We cannot, as good Democrats, put our party in a position to defend such comments," Collins and Reid said in the letter. "We take no pleasure in this, but it the only course of action."

is an insult.

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

The letter also makes no mention of the thousands and thousands of letters, emails, and phone calls we did, it makes no mention of the Clenis, publiclown pedophilia or millions of other things, either, so what's the big deal?

The perfidy of even the "non-aligned" reportage is infuriating.

27. How FOX is reporting this: 'Lunatic Fringe' in Charge
'Lunatic Fringe' in Charge

Newspaper says the state's Democratic Party caves to the 'socialist, Web-addicted wing' in canceling FOX News Debate

The party had originally agreed to allow FOX News Channel to co-sponsor the debate between Democratic presidential candidates in Reno in August, but backed out of the deal Friday afternoon, citing comments made by FOX News president Roger Ailes as the reason for the decision.

The Journal's editorial, however, blames the "socialist, Web-addicted wing of the Democratic Party" for sabotaging the debate, saying they were "apopleptic" over the thought of having to watch FOX News Channel in order to see their candidates.

The editorial goes on to argue that if the Republican party decided to pick and choose coverage based on political leanings as the Democrats are doing, they would have rejected PBS, CBS, NBC, ABC, National Public Radio and The Associated Press decades ago.

The joke in question is suppose to be aimed at bush but plays on the similarity between Obama and Osama's names.

50. CNN: Dems CANCEL DEBATE over Fox chief's Obama joke
LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) -- A Nevada Democratic presidential debate that was to have been co-hosted by Fox News Network was canceled by organizers, in part because of a joke by Fox Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes about presidential contender Sen. Barack Obama.

Democrats canceled the debate Friday. They said a comment by Ailes during a Thursday night speech to a group of radio and television news directors indicated the network was biased against their party.

"It's true that Barack Obama is on the move," Ailes said, deliberately confusing the Illinois senator's name with that of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden. "I don't know if it's true President Bush called Musharraf and said, 'Why can't we catch this guy?' "

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/03/10/debate.canceled/index.html

Finally! The first of many steps in making Faux irrelevant. No Dems should ever appear on that cesspool of a news channel.
