MIAMI --Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney courted South Florida voters Friday, calling Cuban leaders Fidel Castro and his brother Raul, "Cuban monsters."

"I look forward to the day when the stain of Castro is finally washed from the soil of Cuba," Romney said.

Speaking at a dinner for Miami-Dade County Republicans, the former Massachusetts governor talked about supporting the U.S. embargo with the island nation. He also said the United States has for too long ignored Latin America and called for a "Latin American strategy" including improving economic ties and rebuilding trust with countries in the region.

"Our Latin American friends must always feel welcome at the White House," Romney said.

He told the crowd that he owes "a great deal to Americans of Latin American descent."

Romney said his start in business began with partners who had roots in Miami and Latin America.

5. He's no dummy. He knows Republican Congressmen arrange large cash infusions

to Miami Cubans to be spent on various Cuban dissidents, (as in recent purchases made for them of cashmere sweaters (to be worn in Cuba????) Godiva chocolates, and god knows what all the rest of that crap was they discovered they were sending them, but a lot of the money simply ends up staying in Miami, and gets poured into upcoming campaign contributions to other candidates who will support them. It's a wild cycle, with taxpayers' money being allocated by Congress to the Cuban organizations in Florida who end up spending tons on their favorite friendly politicians. It's a real gravy train, and Romney is running to get on board.



Maybe if Elián comes to visit his derelict, drunken great Uncle Lázaro in Miami again, they'll save a place for Romney with the Cuban Congress people who will beat a path over to get their photo ops with the kid, like Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart, and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
